Flier Exchanging

I find that there is not enough of us exchanging zine fliers. Flier exhanging is perhaps one of the most effective ways to promote zines. This group is for anyone who is looking to promote their zine and promote the zines of others.See More

Hey, are you still around here?  Do you have the same address?  I kind of got distracted by life but I'd still like to be penpals if you're into it!

i apologize writing your question back as a post---the Long Haul computer is old and can't do simple functions like respond on the WMZ messages. Hi snooping people!

So homelessness is a nuanced issue. Primarily it is safe to assume that though we all have a degree of choice in our reality in many cases we don't actually have much choice where we end up. Many factors ensure that people remain poor or worse than poor. If you're old, disabled, have a prison record, a mental issue, are not a white male... your chances of finding suitable work that pays well is really nil. Much of the work pays awful, is demaning and is actual murder of the body and spirit. That is the opportunities available to the poor. In that light it would explain why some people want to be free of the system---autonomous. This perspective may help with your housemates the most since this will be an issue people face on a day to day basis.

The guy complaining may have had an unseen issue to compel his shittiness--but more likely he was angry about other issues and he fell victim to kicking at someone he precieves to be weaker than he is. But for both the customer and the manager the relevant question is if the pan handler was being threatening. If not they need to consider the question of public space. Is a community diverse or isn't it. There's plenty of people i don't like but i recognize their soverinty. Maybe some discussion can be had about life style--like how the neighbor to our info shop is so annoyed by our nights of live music that they started calling the police and city inspectors. I like to think that we live in a dense city where people desire homemade culture.(not everyone is a yuppie with children) The music wasn't too loud and often over before midnite...on weekends. Therefore alittle tolerance is in order. We have other neighbors who would probably want us to do more music(and i always thought when yuppie kids grow up they would end up at our events)---how does their needs get a lobby?

The manager probably has too much to deal with and treats a concern about street people reflexivly. They may not want to expend anymore heart and head in their service industry nightmare to break into the bigger questions of diversity of lifestyles or the dysfunctional reality of capitalism and where its all going. You can simply say to the manager (I am a paying customer) the other customer is wrong. It's a public space and the person outside is not behaving in a way against the law so possibly that the customer is acting as a bully. Maybe if you were wealthy enough, had the presence of mind (you're there with housemates) and had the time to go the extra distance:offer the manager to bring the person in and buy them a drink. Then in some way they too are a customer...but more important they could meet each other and develop a repoire. Then future problems can be dealt with subtly...with possible more benefits down the line. Im thinking the manager could give him extra food and the street person can keep an eye on the store--like graffitti or something.

Community takes more time but it is what ultimately sustains us.

I hope that doesn't miss your beat. I'm fresh from swimming---it will be too cold in a couple weeks. I'm about to work on slingshot #114 and i'm planning to show halloween movies in October. I had one beautiful day this week writing letters. I feel i'm so close to catching up on letters. I was just starting to ache about making money this week but i'm finding so much activity and life that the absence of ($8an hour) makes me feel i can make it go some more.

keep on pushing

By the way i do have my own weird issues about being asked for money. When i was a kid the local punks used to preach about always giving homeless money or treating them as humans. As a young adult i started to learn that people cross the line asking--say it in a way where they expect money-and some other problems. I lear
