I wish I had nice parents to feed and house me while I work and study! Thankfully, my internship was paid. ;)

Alma, this idea interests me. As my advisor told me before I began my psych internship, it's okay if you end up hating what you are doing. It is all part of the process of discovering what you DO want to do. I would be glad to submit to your zine. I…

Yes, you've nailed it. I've made plenty of zine-like things that I have kept entirely to myself. It's not about the readers so much as it is about getting it out of my head in a way that makes sense and feels satisfying. If I feel like the topic may…

Sarah, this is what I meant at the closing of my post. Blogs simply aren't for me, and I wasn't talking about the ratio of responses but the quality of the correspondence I have received for printed items compared to blogs. I am perfectly aware that…

I've often been the first to admit that I am a boring person. It's not something that bothers me. We all can't be such paragons of hilarity as yourself. As you say, though, you've got far more important things to do with your time than to take chea…

And you fail on both counts.

Is there a purpose to your existence on this forum? I mean, other than making fun of the way people spell their names and taking cheap shots at every opportunity? I'm sorry my posts don't make you ROTFL, but I'm trying to have an actual conversation…

Offensive and easy, like most stupid jokes.

I think the same rules apply to images and text despite the difference in media. We both enjoy taking things that are already written and rearranging them in a way that turns the document into something entirely different, even though the words migh…

I actually agree with everything you have said here, but the way Nicole worded her post was amusing to me. I have certainly used old photographs and artwork in my zines without giving credit because, as you say, who is going to notice or care? Howev…

Yeah, Zac. It's one thing to steal from the National Geographic (I mean, who are they anyway?), but stealing from internet forums... well, that's just wrong! You guys crack me up.

Give the boy some time, please. I don't understand why you think he isn't following through on the recommendations. It hasn't even been 24 hours since he decided he wanted to do this. And he isn't the one perpetuating this thread. His last few comme…

Biography

I am a 26-year-old psychology student at Trinity University in Washington, D.C. and I have been involved with zines and mail art (mostly the latter) for the past five years, although my love affair with homemade print media began in childhood. My middle school best friend was often grounded, and I was often sick, so we developed a method of keeping in touch that would allow us to communicate and cheer each other during tough times. We created newsletters for each other that were cut and pasted and hand-delivered to the mailbox of the suffering party (we lived a few blocks away from one another and used bicycles as transportation). Even before this time, I amused myself during visits to my father's workplace by creating collections of short stories either by hand or with ClickBook software. Stories that I wrote at six years of age were compiled by my father and handed out to family and friends.

These days I have far less zine-time than I would like, but without all of this living I would have no material!

The following are my current projects:

Machinebook: A collaborative hypertext exploration of love and technology, continually edited by myself and my partner. Machinebook is also available--with offline extras--via floppy disk.

BETRAYED!: A collaborative zine featuring the writing of myself, my partner, and our friend A.E.P. Art is provided by Kata Dales and Ned Kane. Although all written content is available online, Betrayed! is also produced in cut-and-paste format and distributed throughout Baltimore. We appeared at the Baltimore DIY Festival this year and we hope to see you at the Richmond Zine Fest in November.

Concrete Swans: A forthcoming perzine covering a multitude of subjects. The first issue, delving into my experiences working with elderly people suffering from dementia, is in the works. I expect to begin distribution in August.
