I don't think zines are blocked from mainstream media, but I do think most mainstream media is not interested in zines. and I'm glad about that. most mainstream media is mostly advertising, with opinion pieces or advertorials masked as 'news'. there…

Hello! Your 24 hour zine looks great! I've found the 24 hour zine challenge to be excellent motivation to make a zine. I've only just started making zines too and made my 24 hour zine last weekend. I would love to trade if your interested?

I just finished my first one for the 24hour zine project. I've read them for years but hadn't written one. tended to write in notebooks or letters to friends. I think it's a little plain but it was a quick one to ease into it - called "24 Things I'v…

I finished mine too - it's called "24 Things I've Made..." - it's my first zine, and perhaps I'm too old to be starting now - have been reading them for years. it's a little plain and I didn't get it done in a single 24 hour period, but it took less…

24 Things I've Made... zine - for 2009 24 hour zine thing project

I've just finished my zine for the 24 hour zine thing project - we were supposed to make a 24 page zine from scratch in July in a single 24 hour period. since this was my first zine, I didn't quite fit in with the project rules - but I made the zine within 24 hours, though spread over the weekend. I typed it up on my new old Gabrielle 25 Adler typewriter - which took me ages! and gave my fingers a good workout. I went to Office Works today to do the photocopy… Continue

Hoorah! Glad you got my zines. I got yours too, yesterday (which was a surprise as I thought there was a postal strike on in the UK!). Thank you!

Hi Kath,
Thanks for nice feedback :-) I wrote a new zine quite recently called "(m)other: Why I'm not kidding" - it's a lot about being 35 and not being a mom - I don't know if you've come across that one? Sticky stocks it, and also the new zine shop in Adelaide called Format (Peel Street - they have a facebook group I think). But I'm in the final throes of a PhD right now and so zine-ing is on hold for the moment (honestly though, I'd SO much rather be writing zine than a thesis!) And yes, I hear ya on the cutesy 20-something zinesters (many of whom have a lot of good stuff to say ... and some of whom simply don't). But you should write. Yes. Do it. I hate the way zine-ing is associated with 'yoof arts' - it's unnecessary. Good luck with it all - would love to take a look at your stuff when it makes it out of your head/notebooks. Cheers, Phiona
