Hello Amber!

I write a feminist perzine called Culture Slut and a comp zine called Fight Boredom, which is pretty much about small town love, and, uh, fighting boredom.

I'm into Polaroids, feminism, thrift stores, tattoos, adventures, mixtapes, to-do lists, cut and paste, days when I get stuff in the mail, pop culture criticism, vegetarianism, chocolate soy milk, porch sittin', PostSecret, angry women, baking, dance parties, sewing and getting crafty, behaving like a child, recycling, twins, typewriters, tea, eccentricity, road trips and the like.

You can buy my zines from helloamber.etsy.com or contact me through WMZ. When I'm not making zines, I'm writing about 'em here: www.hello-amber.blogspot.com.

fight boredom in toronto this weekend!

I'm getting really excited about this upcoming weekend. I'll be taking the Megabus from Montreal to Toronto this Thursday (holy cheap tickets!) and meeting up with my lovely friend Lindsay from Lindsay for some drinks and good old-fashioned girl-talk. I'm spending the next day with Jennifer Hall, my favourite cotton-candy-haired friend, then attending a Samhain celebration in style - as Pippi Longstocking. On Saturday afternoon I'll be participating in a zine reading alongside Alex Wrekk and som… Continue

two new issues of culture slut!

Culture Slut #19 I guess I would call this something of a "coming out" issue. I write a lot about being queer and how this affects my romantic relationships with dudes, as well as my frustration with the constant assumption that I’m straight. ‘Coz, you know, I’m not. I’ve also included some reviews of excellent queer zines for further reading. Please note, I've written a little bit about abuse, so please keep that in mind and read this zine in a safe space.

what is a culture slut?

http://hello-amber.blogspot.com/2009/10/what-is-culture-slut.html

The topic was raised on We Make Zines recently - Where does the title of your zine come from? I started writing my perzine Culture Slut back in 2004, and named it for a photo of the Manic Street Preachers. Oddly enough, I was never a huge Manics fan.… Continue

Hey, I've just received the second package!
It only took 10 days to arrive, I simply don't understand where the first package can be...
Anyway, thank you very much!

It's true. I'm trying to steal people away to London because I can't afford to go to Montreal and I want company. But we can share photos and stories afterwards so there's one positive.

I've turned a bunch of my real-life friends onto zines but I still don't have any people I hang out with who actually make zines of their own. So I can talk but they can't relate to the joys and pains of copying and collating and stapling and folding and sizes.

I want friends to have zine-making parties with and hang out at the copy shop for hours on end.

I love zine fairs just because it's such an encouraging atmosphere being around likeminded people who do the same things as you and understand where you're coming from and won't judge you. So usually I'm just so hyperactively happy to be there that I can gab and chat with anyone.

I'm a fan of Pilot Hi-Tecpoint pens and am currently using the V7. You should be able to find 'em at any office supply store and a lot of places have testers so you can see if you like the look and feel of it first. I've never had any problems wit...

It depends on the situation. I have many pen pals that I exchange long letters with on a frequent basis - we met through zines, though I can't always remember our first real contact. Obviously we traded at some point in time and wound up becoming ...
