Profile Information

Who am i??

I'm Em, 26 and based in Sheffield, UK. I put out my first zine, a collective look at positive influences within queer feminist culture, 'The World's A Mess and Yr My Only Cure' in 2008 with a further issue coming out in 2010. I used to run Lola and the Cartwheels, a riot grrrl chapter and distro a few years ago and put on monhtly shows and clubnights in Sheffield and Leeds. In 2009, i booked and read on the European/UK 'Sister Spit: The Next Generation' tour and contributed to a couple of other zines and small projects alongside running my blog - http://girlgotbusy.wordpress.com/ I mostly write about positive outlook, my own personal experiences and feelings, mental health, class and DIY empowerment.

In 2011, i set up my own business which took up most of my time, but now things are a lot more settled with the daily running, i have got back into self publishing again. picked up a copy of "the worlds a mess...." at the women's library today, haven't read much yet (i have a really short attention span and tend to read little bits here and there over months!) but i thought that the opening page was really inspiring - and it's really the message that i'm trying to get across with the events we're doing - that people can do it themselves and don't need to rely on the mainstream media to write or draw or whatever... i guess you're coming from a slightly different angle but nonetheless it was great the way you talked about how supportive the scene was and how it made you feel to be a part of it, if more people could feel that about their local scene or community then i think our problems as a society would be considerably less! well done,
