Alex Wrekk= DIY By Default
Hi, my name is Alex Wrekk and I have been making the zine Brainscan since 1997 and I have just completed issue #23! I have made several one-off zines like I'm A Wrekk, Birthdays & Christmas, Time Zones and Statelines, Fire Apparatus, and more. I also wrote the book Stolen Sharpie Revolution.
I live in Portland, Oregon USA. I have been and open hours staff volunteer at the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) since 2003. I am also an organizer for the Portland Zine Symposium. I was one of the original people involved in 2001 and out of the 8 years I have been and organizers for 6 of them and attended 7.
I make custom 1" & 1.25" to pay the bills on my site Small World Buttons. I also sell my my zines, my own catalog button designs, and fantastic organic and fair trade coffee beans that I roast myself. I also have an Etsy site for my items and I am a Team Leader for Etsy TeamZine.
I also like to ride my bike, garden, travel, play with photocopiers, drink and brew craft beer, play at home repair, and cook vegan food.

- Hey there! It would be great if we can meet up when I am in Portland. I definitely want to check out the IPRC, so maybe my visit could coincide with your shift.
I will be in Portland mostly August 21st, 22nd, and the morning of the 23rd. The real reason for my trip is to visit my partner in Umatilla, OR, but since I am flying in to Portland, I want to check it out too.
If you'll be on shift the morning of August 23rd, that's when I'll plan to check out IPRC. It would be great to meet you in person.
