In the film "Conspiracy Theory", Mel Gibson published a zine that had a readership of one. Of course it was the person who wanted to track him, but it was funny to see zinedom featured in such a big movie... that pretty much flopped.

William (though most people know me by my middle name, Alan). Age: 42. Occupation: More and more a desk slave! Grew up in many places. Born in London Ontario, Canada before moving to Cleveland, Ohio at an early age only to end up in Mesa, Arizona ...

The great thing about P.O. Boxes is that you can keep them when you move. I've had the same P.O. Box address for 18 years even though I've had a dozen home addresses in that span. Even when I was homeless (granted that was years ago) I had a maili...

I've always done cut-n-paste, but it's been a honed craft. I've used computer printers in the past, but now I've gone back to the old style. I like the look of simple typewriting and clip art and that's where I feel most comfortable, so that's goi...

I drink and curse and have plenty of tattoos, but I'm also a deist. I've studied many religions and I think they do help people, so I don't shun anyone for their beliefs. I accept people for who they are and judge them on their actions. But I'm al...

I review a lot of the zines that I receive in the mail, they can be found here: hello-amber.blogspot.com.

That would be quite cool - like productreview.com.au or something, but for zines. I think your idea is tops. :)

I was going through some old review zines earlier today and had a thought. What if there was a thread on this board where people could review zines they get? It would be a great way to get word out quickly about new issues from the reader's perspe...

I tend to write ideas down on whatever I have handy at the time, then re-write them in a notebook to keep them together. When I have some free time I go to a park near where I live to read what I collected and work out the ideas. I like going to t...

I don't see that, but maybe it's the way I feel in the pronunciation. I'll have to watch "Dr. Caigari" (the Rinse Dream vresion) again to maybe find the whisper in a hard "K".

There is a very good wine company that has a brand "Cacophony", Toad Hollow. Good wine, but I don't think of birds when I drink it... I think of bats!

I have only two at the moment, FILM GEEK and THE TUMULTUOUS TIMES. F.G. started in '98 and the last issue came out in 03, but I've been working on a new issue the last six years. T.T.T. is waiting for the first issue to get published, just as soon...

Well said, ciaraxyerra. Zines are not mainstream, nor will they ever be! And I have a lot more respect for someone just starting out and making something they enjoy to share with fellow zinesters far more than someone who has been griping about th...

This entire thread makes me feel old... But then again I am getting up in years! When I first started making zines there was no internet, or even computers to make layouts. Every word was typed or written out manually and every image was drawn or ...

Who Am I?

I'm just a person who loves the past. I guess it started in school, since I never fit in to any of the que's. I started writing right from the start. People interested me, but more as a spectical than interrelational part of my life. Now I've learned enough to know (at least in small parts) how they think. Anyone who grows up like me would understand.

I love films from the past. I write about them because people seem to think anything more than a week old is old news. They don't see the messages in the films I love. They speak volumes of the human condition compared to what comes out today. Possibly the mind has changed, but it seems my job is in figuring out where the rest of us fall. That's where I'm at now.

Grass Grows Faster than I Move Right Now...

For anyone waiting on something in the mail from me, I'm sorry it has taken far too long. I've been seriously ill for the last month and haven't been able to do much of anything. On the bright side I've nearly completed the first issue of my latest zine "The Tumultuous Times". And since it was supposed to be done a month ago, I decided everyone on my mailing list gets it for free! This does include people not on this forum, but if you're not on my mailing list and would like a free copy drop me… Continue

Long Live the Typewriter!

Last weekend I was at the local office supply store, picking up a new laser printer, when I noticed they still sell typewriters. Granted, they are nothing like the old machines I'm familiar with, but I hadn't actually seen one in years. One thing that caught my attention was what someone had typed on a display model: "Typewriters are not obsolete, they are still useful". Though that person may never know, I decided then and there to find a typewriter and pound out a zine the old fashioned way.… Continue

The New "FILM GEEK"

I haven't put out an issue myself in nearly seven years, and that's just too long! Just about all my "so called" modern equipment is useless to me now, and I have to start all over. The only thing that still works is my copier I bought in 1999. I'm sure eventually I'll get my printers back up (or replace them), but for now I'll just work with what I have. To put out a new issue old school might be what I need at this point.

I got to the point of sending out thousands of copies of my zine when I… Continue

Oh, it wasn't nearly as hard to find you on that thread as I thought, since you're the person right above me. How about one Film Geek and one of your perzines in exchange for my Character Sandwich and the anthology Repeat Offenders? Send yours to P.O. Box 333, Beaverton, OR 97005. This trading is fun! (Got to find ways to not go broke, though)

Hi, you seem like an interesting person to get to know. I like movies, too, both old and new. I am soon about to try a second "press run" on A Character Sandwich. What zines do you have to trade? (I'll check the thread about that to see if you're listed there, but it's easier if you say something about them on your page. Accepting your friendship request. Ttyl.

woooot! someone thinks I'm friendly:) people from my neighborhood and the university think im rather intimidating and stoic (until they actually get to know me of course. but that message along with the invite made me feel great for sure... friendly would beone of the last 1st impressions have of me XD

but now that we are friends... how would you like to participate in a collaboration zine? im still trying to get more people interested, and since I'm pretty new to the whole zineand networking thing, it's kinda difficult right now... so anyways if you are interested, justvisit the site through HERE
