Dwelling Portably for inspiration, although it had crap print and poor directions, I need full step by step instructions. Sadly, I find most how to zines to be lacking, from Soy, Not Oi! (the mother of all cooking zines) having some really bad rec...
The absolute MOTHER of all DIY zines, is Dwelling Portably, started in 1980. But there were earlier ones, by Rayo. They're in the "vonu" subculture. Check out:

I read zines more than I make them. I've made one (about alternative education for a festival) and have a few half-made ones languishing in my computer.
I'm thinking of doing zines with themed puzzles - word searches, crosswords, rebuses, that sorta thing.

Ah how funny! I had seen it on metafilter and liked the gist of your blog posts. Then I was surprised to see you here. The internet sure is a small place. I wish you all the inspiration with your zines and look forward to whatever you produce.
