Question...about New Issue Announcement Forum

Posted on June 13, 2016 at 5:00pm 1 Comment

Is there a way to make the New Issue Announcement Forum show the NEWEST posts first instead of showing the oldest one and then having to go to the last page manually?

It would be nice if that discussion automatically placed the newest "New Issue Announcements" as the first ones you see... going backward in time, with the oldest ones as the last page.

Maybe I'm just dumb and it's a setting on my end?

Apologies to all for the name change... I'm still trying to figure out a good pen name to write my Zines under.  I don't mind telling you it's a pen name.  I've given it a lot of thought and I feel that using a pseudonym is the right thing for me to do right now.  I don't plan on overthrowing the government or publishing crazy manifestos... I just want a bit of anonymity when it comes to making some more personal and bolder art and comics.

I've been working on other "mainstream / commercial" type cartoons and graphic novels... but I wanted an outlet for other work.  Perhaps a day will come when I merge them together, but for now, I think this is what I need to help me stretch as an artist and take some more daring chances with my writing and illustrations.

Truthfully, I doubt anybody really cares.  It's not like there are many people in my life holding me back... but knowing that I can publish something without overly repressed loved ones or critical but well meaning friends chiming in, allows me to breathe easier.  It's the freedom of reinventing myself, I suppose, that draws me to this choice.

Does anyone else here use a pen name?  ... or perhaps you don't want to say.

I was wondering how you can tell someone who is interested in your Zine to "Please send check for $3.00 to {Name}" and then not reveal your identity?  And if they send you a check made out to your pen name, you can't cash it!

I researched this and the best advice I heard was to create a DBA / Fictitious Business name and then open a business checking account as a "dba" (doing business as) account with that name listed below your real name.  However, I think if I'm going to register a DBA, I would rather register an actual "Publishing Business" name and not one that sounds like an individual person.

That way, I can still write Zines under my pen name AND create other works under my real name, and just publish…

I remember some time ago hearing about Zines... and I was interested.  Very interested.  I never heard of them before and I was intrigued.  I knew about comics.  And I knew about Graphic Novels.  But Zines??? Cool!

But it just wasn't the right time.  The moon wasn't in alignment, my ducks weren't in a row, my head was up my ass... you know how it is.  Anyway, I recently placed an order for comics from a Pittsburgh comic shop.  I wanted to sample only Pittsburgh artists and I wanted the comics to be on the Artsy / Weird side.  So I filled my shopping cart with a hodge-podge of comics. (They are still being shipped as I write this.  I haven't seen them yet.)  However, I do know that I put some smaller Zines in my shopping cart.  I figured, "What the hell, they're only $2."

So, anyway, that's what got me thinking again about Zines and making my own.  I did a Google search and I found this place.  It looked pretty cool, so again, I said "What the hell". (I say "What the hell" a lot.  Especially at work.)

I graduated many many many many years ago with a BFA degree with a major concentration in Graphic Design and a minor in Printmaking.  I don't do either of those things for a living (but I was a graphic designer for about 8 years). I love fine art... but I also love comics and illustration (perhaps even more).  My life has been up and down when it comes to creating art.  It's tough to find the time.  So I thought that making a Zine might be fun and help me to loosen up and express myself better.  Who knows?

Well, that's all for now.  I just wanted to say "Hello" and I hope that in the coming weeks and months I can get some fun Zines made and get into the flow of making some Art again.

Now here's a drawing of Tippy the Turtle that I did, for no good reason.  Good night all!…
