I've just added most of my zines to Folksy. It's taken me a while to get around to it, as I just wasn't convinced how many sales it's likely to generate (especially with how quiet it is around here!); then I thought, well I'm really not going to s...

Hope it's okay to post this here, as it's about an external trade... I just discovered that Alma Stoller (you'll probably know who she is, if you're into art zines; if not, check out Etsy!) is running an arty/crafty zine trade. You can get the ful...

The cover is a brown recycled paper that I get from a place called Eco-Craft. It's basically like strong brown parcel paper, but comes in A4 sheets, so I can run it through my printer :-). I use it for most of my zine covers.

Hey there!

I've finally got around to updating this page, & will do my best to keep it so! There is lots of info about all my currently available zines in 'My Photos' - you can buy them in my Etsy stores, tanglecrafts.etsy.com & thetangledpress.etsy.com - but I'm also up for trades. I've added a brief summary of each zine below, if you can't be bothered to trawl through the photos, but check My Photos or Etsy for full info.

(N.B. All of my zines are printed on recycled paper/s/card, and the majority have a hand-stitched binding.)

THE FREEBIE:
The Morsbags zine - this is my charity zine, folded from a single page of A4. It tells you all about why plastic bags are bad for the environment, and how you can help by making & using eco-bags. Unfold the zine for a free Morsbag sewing pattern. The zine itself is absolutely free, as it's all about raising awareness. Just ask if you would like me to include it with a trade or purchase, and it's yours!

THE RANDOM ZINES:
The Beast: Requiem for a Vibraphone - this 3-in-1 mini-zine is an homage to my husband's first vibraphone, known as the Beast, which has sadly just gone into retirement. It includes a zine about the Beast's life, a collection of Corey's haiku, and a photo-story zine, all tucked into an origami-folded wallet with integral pockets, and a hand-stitched binding.
V
On Flowers & Fairy Tales - this half-size, 20 page zine does what it says on the tin, really: it's a collection of thoughts, poems, lino-cut illustrations, and other miscellaneous related trivia all to do with the symbolism of flowers & fairy tales. It's in no way an academic study or in-depth analysis, just ideas...
V
Head-Space - In a similar format to 'The Beast' zine above, 'Head-Space' is a 3-part mini-zine with a collection of thoughts about my haiku, traditional haiku, and haiku poets. There is a separate mini-zine with the same collection of Corey's haiku as appears in 'The Beast', and a pocketful of my haiku (16 separate haiku printed on individual cards).
V
Profound Tapestry - a collection of 'found poetry' from my vintage tapestry & weaving books. References to weaving, spinning, warp and weft seem to lend themselves very easily to poetry that doesn't necessarily appear craft-related! A 24 page quarter-size (A6) zine.
V
papertrail #1 - A 24 page A5 (half-sized) zine, predominantly a collection of found poetry from some of my favourite fiction, but also random musings and opinions about the novels I have borrowed from, and 'papertrails' of what to read next if you read or have read any of the books mentioned. Oh, & spaces to fill in with books you want to read & to create your own papertrail, too.

THE CRAFTY ZINES:
Make Your Own... Borrowers zine - a 20 page A5 (half-sized) zine giving a complete overview of Borrower history and culture, and including a range of Borrower-inspired crafts. Not just a zine about the Borrowers, miniature text & matchbox templates are also provided to make your very own Borrowers micro-zine to fold into a matchbox!
V
Cover-Button Moon - a 16 page mini zine with a complete introduction and how-to about covering your own buttons, as well as a collection of projects to try out. If you don't have a button-covering kit, the zine is fastened with 3 re-useable, removable fabric-covered buttons that you can experiment with!
V
Leftover Lavender - this is a reversible mini-zine offering 2 zines in 1! The main zine is a collection of projects for using up your leftover lavender harvest, then turn the zine inside out for an original Tanglecrafts cross stitch pattern to embroider.
V
D.I.Y. French Knitting - a 12 page quarter-sized zine that is full of creative ways to re-purpose ordinary everyday stuff to make your own French knitter. There are gaps to fill in with your own ideas, a project perfect for social drinkers, and lots more resources, suggestions & info.
V
Small Ways to Save the World - My very first 'traditional' mini zine with lots of suggestions for practical re-purposing of paper products, including making your own mini-zine! It is printed on the reverse of a page from an old graph paper pad, so you can turn the zine inside out to find a handy pocket notebook, too!
V
Telaic Fantasy #1: the spiderweb issue - My very first zine, this is half-sized and comes with a free kit to weave a ragbag, and an exclusive 'theme tune' cd! All issues of Telaic Fantasy are a combination of weaving-related literature, features & projects.
V
Telaic Fantasy #2: the notebook issue - Comes with a free postcard recycling kit, lots of ideas for weaving with paper, and 'ideas' notepaper interspersed with the text. Includes exclusive interview with Kristin Roach from Craft Leftovers.
V
Telaic Fantasy #3: the fairy tale issue - the title says it all, really. In addition, weave your own ATC free kit, a free weaving/spinning-related fairy tale mini-zine, plus origami envelope template and instructions.

General stuff about me & my zines:
I go through phases of intense interest in lots of different things, and zines are the perfect way to legitimise my obsessions. I have lots more zines in my head that are just waiting for the time, and then they'll be out there, too. I'm primarily interested in crafts and creativity, but my zines will never just be project-based, because there are always related issues to think or tell about, and I've always been a writer as much as a crafter. I'm one of those people who just always has to be discovering things. I guess you know what I mean... ;-)

If you want to find out more about my stuff, check out www.tanglecrafts.co.uk and the etsy stores mentioned above, but there's lots more zine-related stuff to come!

Another great review :-)

I just love Sister Diane over at the Crafty Pod! She's just given a great review for another of my zines, 'PostScript'. Speaking of which, you won't see PostScript listed in the profile above, because I'm still having some 'technical difficulties', and that is the only section of my page which refuses to give me an 'edit' option. But I'll add the full description into the photo album, anyway, with some ot… Continue

I'm here, vaguely

I've not been around much lately - largely due to technical issues, which meant I couldn't actually make posts or reply to anything, but since that's been resolved, I've just been busy. There are new zines to add to the list above, and new photos. Mail art is the latest fascination, & crops up in various guises amidst the new stuff. The next week is still looking very full, but after that, everything should be a bit calmer, & I will have time to update everything.

Folksy

I stumbled across Folksy by chance a couple of months ago, and it seemed like a good idea. It is essentially another version of Etsy, but because it's based in the UK (like me) I can list my items in £s, UK buyers know what they're paying, and the payments I receive don't fluctuate according to the exchange rate. I'm slightly wary because I just don't know how popular or well-known it is, as a site. There seem to be a lot of people around on the forums there, but are they mostly sellers, rather… Continue

New arty/crafty zine swap

I was really excited to see that Alma Stoller has set up a trade for art/craft=themed zines, over at http://i-heart-zines.blogspot.com/2009/03/join-i-heart-zines-2009.html. It works differently from most trades I have taken part in, as the zines are all sent directly to Alma, who sends 10 of the other zines back to each participant. It sounds like a genius way to actually make sure you get back as many zines as you send out, which has been a bit of an issue with some of the other trades I… Continue

A cool review!

Have just been sent a copy of Diane Gilleland's new e-book 'Weaving Un-Loomed' (all about funky weaving projects made without using a 'real' loom) and found...me!...at the end of it. My 'Telaic Fantasy' zine is listed in the Resources section, at the end - one of only 4 entries! This is what she says:

"This weaving zine is one of my favorites. Su offers up fun tutorials for small-scale weaving projects, along with
delightful reading on the history and lore surrounding this craft. Plus, the desi… Continue

If you'd like, I could swap with my new Estrones. It's only quarter size (A6), 12 page perzine. Swap and some stamps perhaps? Or if you have a paypal email addy, let me know and I'll send something that way. (I was looking for you on folksy and didn't find you, but ended up buying a couple of craft zines from someone else there! LOL!!)
