About Me

Hi! I'm 48, married with a 22 year old daughter. We live on the coast of west Wales, with four cats, a hen and a goldfish. I started making zines when I was around 7 years old, though I had no idea that that was what I was doing! An Uncle used to work at a stationer's and he would bring presents of offcuts of paper, drawing pads and notebooks. My sister and I used all that lovely paper to make our own comics. We were avid fans of the Bunty, Judy, June & Schoolfriend and our cousins' boy's comics.

Later, as a member of the Puffin Club, I was interested in writing and illustrating my own stories. In 1980 I discovered science fiction fandom and met the man who was to be my husband. My first fanzines were from Chuck Conner; I still have them! I was aware of small press literary zines, but had no idea that zines existed much outside of SF fanzines. I edited the Birmingham SF groups's newsletter, as well as writing and producing my own fanzines. I was a member of lots of apas. Lots and lots of apas! I am currently a member of the Australia & New Zealand apa, the American Amateur Press Association and the National Amateur Press Association. (The latter included HP Lovecraft as a member, once upon a time.)

My first zine in years is titled Crone, as I am as near as darn it to 50 and embracing my crone years. I'm a Pagan, a Piscean and Old Enough To Know Better!

At last Crone!

Yes, at last I have finished Crone! It's 20 pages A5 and is a more, I would say, literary zine than Estrones. It has a piece about getting older, a recipie, a story written by me, another short article, an article about the four daughters of the late Tsar from the "Girls' Realm" magazine of 1901 and an article about Lady Charlotte Guest (one of my heroes).

My husband took it with him to London today and he'll be photocopying it at work. (My worries that he wouldn't be able to when… Continue

Still Crone-ing

I know, I haven't finished Crone yet. I've had a couple of set backs. We were without the 'net for a week while BT dickered about with the broadband. It took just about six calls a day to the helpline in India before it was finally fixed. I was gnawing the furniture in the meantime.

However, I managed to entertain myself by dislocating and breaking the little toe on my left foot. Don't ask how. My husband and daughter joke that I could cut myself on the air, I'm that clumsy. The toe is s… Continue

Crone-ing

I'm trying to race ahead with Crone as my husband wants to get it printed next week. Monday and tuesday are his last days at HSBC and his last chance to print it. The situation with photocopyng at the Home Office is up in the air. He reckons it'll be fine; I'd rather not risk it for a while because, ya know, the Home Office. But I did go to a photocopiers in Machynllyth. I didn't really get the full details: there was a police officer in there, interviewing the shop owner about som… Continue

A wee bit annoyed

I got "Stolen Sharpie Revolution 2" in the post today, through the CornDog distro. I love it; from the size of it, to the content and the way it's laid out. It's a gorgeous book and I can see it being useful for quite a while.

But, there was one sentence that rather annoyed me. It's on page 57 and is the last sentence: "They are also a great way to keep your parents from reading your mail." I'm a parent. I'm 48 and my daughter is 22 and I would never, ever dream of opening her mail. I re… Continue

Estrones 1

Well, the first issue of Estrones is done. I have a neat pile of 50 copies, all with individual covers: no two alike! Now that it's done, I can see problems. Such as, the lack of a proper way to end it. It just, well, ends. Note to self: write a proper last page, don't just leave it like that. And *facepalm* I managed to have two pages printed the wrong way around. It's a list of 48 things about me (as i am 48), but something went a bit backwards between putting it all together on word. I… Continue

Hello Eunice,

you mentioned a mini-zine-swap with my very first sweetie "friendship day" since we are not assigned partners at the current SwapBot-mini-zine-swap ...

If you are still interested and pm me your address, I will send it out tomorrow before leaving for vacation? :-)

xxx
