Peace mayng, I created my first zine last Nov-December of 2007.I published it January of 08 and as the saying goes 'its been ON since then". I started kinda late in the Zine arena. I jumped into it because I wanted a free format to put my thoughts down besides my sketch-books. Im into publishing comics, childrens books, graphic novels, and novels but im not there yet.Zines are a necessary and meditative discipline for me to take steps toward those endeavors. The subject matter is reflective of my interests which are mainly based on my cultural background, learning more about my roots, about social justice and how to present those things in a creative way.
The zines are published by me for "Come Bien" Books-a group for illustrators and writers of color to collaborate on pieces/articles that are both informative and creative.
"SS" Still Searching The subjects I choose to focus on in "SS" are Ethinc Studies, Political Education, Social Justice, Music, Illustration, Creative Writing, Hip Hop Culture, and Personal Experience of course. Since I published the zine I've printed about 120 color -silk screened copies and about 200 black and white copies of the pages and cover.

This hits hella close to home because I've worked with some young people in the Sco'(SF) who were going thru this same madness 3 years ago (murders, turf violence, no academic, recreational, or creative programs, hustlin',and the juvenile justice system). Not only that, im a parent-and i cant imagine what its like to have to bury youre own child! The struggle doesnt end with the visual art. Please pass the word about this video and the issue of youth violence in SF! Its… Continue
