"Oh thats a good idea! I do like blogging to thats normally easier for me to talk about. Plus pamphlet is better then "book" cause that seems to give people a different idea. Thanks!  "

"In terms of explaining format, the word "pamphlet" is helpful. (Thanks to Alex Wrekk for that one!) And as much as I loathe comparing zines to blogs, it can help to explain the type of content that zines feature."

"And what's a zine? It's an underground magazine. Oooooh. Aaaaah. Does that mean you're an editor? No, it means I have fur stuck to my fingers from using a glue stick and then petting the cat. I have to re-fill my drink."

"Oh thats a good idea! I have a few mini ones that I could show people. That always makes me uncomfortable showing someone my work and watching their reaction. But thats definitely something I should get over! This will help! Thanks! "

"Hi Remi, Had problems in this area, also being an awkward conversationalist myself. Maybe you could show them what a zine is by giving them a tangible copy to hold and look at. So they can see, first hand, that it's self-published, handmade, a…"

Small Talk

I'm not good at making conversations and once the awkward long pauses and silence kicks in, people walk away or start grasping at straws. The first question they reach for is "what do you do for fun." The process in my head goes somewhat like- crap do i have fun? Does reading count? Doodling on receipts? Sending letters to strangers? Listening to music and making up my own lyrics?... finally I land on, I'm a homebody that likes to sit in her room contemplate life and create things like zines…See More

Giving it another go.

I made a zine forever ago, but it didn't really turn out how I wanted it to. So I gave up. I've recently found myself with a lot of extra time and a lot of extra doodles laying around. So I thought, why not compile it into a little book. That's what I did and found that I made something I really enjoyed. This time instead of giving up I'm going to make a second one to fix all the mistakes (or things that I didn't enjoy about it). I know that making zines and the idea of zines is such a huge…

So the other day I was talking to a friend who was vigorously working on this little book thing. When I asked him about it he said he was working on making a zine. I had only kinda heard about it before, but never really quite new what it was.
