I mostly sell zines at my Etsy shop, but I've also got pins, and have been known to sell a few handmade crafts and some supplies. Occasionally I'll list some vintage clothing or Polaroid cameras as well. Honestly, I've never had a problem with my ...

Ha ha, you are totally spot on! I am not that concerned with this whole "professional" obsession, and you're right, probably very few people buying zines would be either. I thought etsy was a place for handmade items, anyhow, not stuff that looks ...

i sell zines, prints and postcards right now. my zines sell better than my prints and such but i don't think the prints interfere with my sales. i guess i think it's good to keep selling advice in mind but i don't think it's entirely applicable to...

That does seem reasonable, just keeping it from being too random. But I always figured that was why there were categories - so you could separate your different stuff! My etsy selling guide would beg to differ: she claims the categories are only t...

Right now I only sell zines, but I hope to add more stuff if I ever get time to work on other projects! I think that they have a point about not selling too many different things, but it can't hurt to have a little variety. It might only seem yard...

I think you are so right on point A and B. I think it's cool to focus and become really good at one thing, but like you, I also value variety. Maybe it's a balance between the two? And I like your logic that selling different items might attract d...

I think there's something to be said for doing only one thing and doing it really well, but I personally like variety. I have a few different things in my shop, most of which are completely unrelated to zines. [Or I will, once I take it off vacati...

Hi.
I currently make a zine called the HSSreader and used to make a zine called Jot Outlet in the 90s. Going from super artsy, prose-filled perzine (Jot Outlet) to more of a miniature magazine format (HSSreader) was a weird transition for me. But, the magic of making zines is that a zine can be whatever you want it to be! The HSSreader evolves each time I make a new one and is going to continue to change and unfold (haha) in the future. Unfortunately, I seem to have a track record of making annual zines, so you won't see them all too frequently. I try to make them worth the wait. I also fill the gaps by making one-time mini zines or comics. Here are a few web addresses if you are interested...

Zine overhaul

Ok, so I am sure most zine makers have experienced this: a desire for change and the urge to completely overhaul the usual zine you've been making for a while. For me it's a tiny bit scary, a little bit sad, but mostly it is exciting and marks a change in my life that will show in the new zine. I have been mulling over the idea for over a year, not wanting to abandon my zine, the HSSreader, but at the same time, wanting to start something new. I can't do both my usual zine and a new one,… Continue

etsy anyone?

Hello,
do you sell your zines on etsy? If so, I have a couple questions for you.
I wondered how many times you renew an item before you figure it's just not making enough sales and take it down? There are a couple items I have listed more than once and although they get a lot of views, they don't seem to be hot items for purchasing. But I keep posting them with hopes someone somewhere will bite sometime! Silly, I know. Another question is about advertising. Do you? If you do advertise, where at?… Continue
