Pieces 6.5 and Chicago Zine Fest.

Posted on January 24, 2012 at 11:00am 0 Comments

I will be tabling at the Chicago Zine Fest this year, which I am mightily looking forward to. I had a ton of fun attending the last two years, so I can only imagine that tabling at the darn thing will be even more exciting.

Just in time for the fest, a split I have done with my friend Carrie (of Brilliant Mistake and My Aim is True) will be available at both of our booths as well. So be sure to stop by, say hello, and trade zines!

Why hello there!

UPDATED March 13th, 2015

I'm Nichole, a writer, designer, and UI developer who grew up in Northwest Indiana. Despite my computer tech-like background, I very much enjoy glue stick messes, ripping paper, and classic cut and paste zine styles. I write two perzines: Pieces and A Visitor in Myself.

All my zines are available for purchase or trade. i actually prefer trades, but if you do not have a zine to trade, i am also willing to send zines in exchange for a handwritten letter, tea, handmade cards or postcards, stationery, buttons & pins, or other random but interesting ephemera.

Available Zines

A Visitor in Myself #4
Perzine 1/4 size : 30 pages
A narrative from late 2014 into early 2015. This zine includes writings on nightmares as scars, the need to desexualize intimacy, winter care, platonic love, life as stories, depression, zines, and more.

A Visitor in Myself #3
Perzine 1/4 size : 30 pages
A continuing narrative about mental health, self-care, memory, and learning to love and appreciate life as it comes. Other stories include a bad drinking experience, friendships, and finding kinship through zines.

A Visitor in Myself #2
Perzine 1/4 size : 30 pages
A continuing narrative about mental health, self-care, memory, and learning to love and appreciate life as it comes. Other stories include a bad drinking experience, friendships, and finding kinship through zines.

A Visitor in Myself #1
Perzine 1/4 size : 30 pages
A stream of consciousness zine that is reflective of my BPD traits and the gratitude I have for those who have stuck with me over the years.

Pieces #11: On Connecting Through Friendships, Letters & Zines
Perzine 1/4 size : 56 pages
This text-heavy zine is about connecting with others through friendships, letters, long distance acquaintanceship, and zines. Stories include moving beyond diagnoses, courage found through zines, slipping letters to strangers in coffee shops, a girl on the bus, creating second homes, and Chicago Zine Fest 2014.

Pieces #10 / My Aim is True #10
Perzine 1/4 legal size : 50 pages
This is a split zine with Carrie of My Aim is True and Gender Matters. Carrie writes about her right to exist as a fat woman, how life is too short to remain angry, street harassment, and things to remember being in the world as a fat person. I write about accepting myself as I am: acne, scars, depression, and everything else, how I've come to embrace (and like!) my acne scarring, weight standing in the way of starting medication, and how conversation can be the most healing thing of all.

Pieces #8 on twelve years of running
Perzine 1/4 size : 64 pages
Snapshots of the last twelve years in which I avoid therapy and medication for fear of stigma, start intermittent therapy, and finally--twelve years later--begin continual therapy and start medication . This zine is a narrative of the constant battle of wanting help but working hard to appear as normal.

Pieces #6.5 & my aim is true 5
Perzine 1/4 size : 82 pages
This is a split with my friend Carrie and while we tell two very different stories about body issues, there are many underlying threads that are the same. Pieces covers a long-waged battle against acne. My Aim is True covers a struggle with weight. Both are about the need for self-acceptance, self-love, and the people who helped get us there.

I'm not sure if we traded in the past but I'd be interested in your latest zine (and also the one you did with your mom). I have my latest (or back issues) of my Ken Chronicles available if you're interested. (Descriptions on WMZ or google it.)

Hey, I read part of Pieces #6 today. A new friend brought it to our zine club meeting. It was wonderful an I'd love a copy. Honestly I'm just getting started and don't have much zine-wise to offer. I'd be happy to send you the silly creations I have made, a letter, and mail art. Plus a copy of whatever I create next, which will probably be more serious, possibly personal.
