It was two long years
After a couple years of searching, we opened up our new store in Portland at 833 SE Main St. #107 (next to Blacksheep Bakery and Plan-B). If you don't know where that's at, it's on 9th St between Belmont and Hawthorne.
The last month and a half was spent building shelves, accumulating books and zines, getting enough PVC pipe to build a t-shirt rack, and getting settled in. Aside from the zines, books, patches, stickers, and t-shirts that we publish, our main attraction is our fine collection of "hurt" and "remaindered" books--i.e. books that are half price of less because they aren't conventionally able to be sold by a distributor. We have a whole shelf of radical books that are $4 or less.
Sections include politics, queer, history, punk, bicycling, zine anthologies, food politics, women's studies, anarchism, fiction/memoir, "police actions", three letter acronyms, obvious books (topics which may not actually require an entire book), and activism. We have a whole shelf of half price or less Noam Chomsky and Ward Churchill books too!
Our goal is to have available most of the stuff that's on our website and catalog, but the store is VERY SMALL. perhaps one day it will all fit.
We're pretty pumped to be finally open and operating after a long time with no public space and hanging out in the basement.
Come by and check a very weird and eclectric freebox of strange books. Unfortunately, someone already took the Spiderman coloring book, night of the living dead dvd, and the book of vegan poems. Drat. Though we do still have Neil Young's autobiography and a Winston Churchhill memoir.
It is fun to have people visit and sit on the stool to chat. Friends, come by!

After much careful deliberation, we decided to make some 13th anniversary sweatshirts. It's something that we've talked about and wanted for a long time. Unfortunately, it's very hard to find fair trade, American made sweatshirts. Even most of the companies that generally make their products ethically cannot make "cost effective" sweatshirts in the US. So eventually we decided to go with American Apparel as our best option. To be "down" we are selling them for about half of what American…
