Profile Information

What is RatBrat and who is this Mab girl?

I write a perzine called RatBrat, which is usually half-size, but was recently published in a quarter-size format for the first time. Issues are generally between 25-50 pages long. I write about my life, observations of the world, and anything that is important to me at the time of writing. I use zines for self-expression and to capture things that are relevant in my life in the moment. Subjects in past issues have included having bipolar disorder, general life experiences, book and zine reviews, death, love, and my pets. I also write some fiction and poetry. I try to write about things that I feel are situations and experiences other people might share or relate to, but ultimately, my zines are there for the purpose of emptying my mind and creating things I enjoy.

I am a kick-ass girl living in the middle of Pennsylvania, who loves animals, smokes too many cigarettes, and hasn't traveled enough to satisfy my need for adventure (yet). I am in a transitional phase of my life after moving suddenly out of my parents' house and deciding that what I just spent the last 3 years going to school for is not what I love. I am figuring things out, and in the meantime, I am zining.

RatBrat #12 is finished!

Posted on August 26, 2010 at 4:29am 2 Comments

Issue #12 of my perzine RatBrat is finished! I'm printing it up today. I don't have any photos at the moment (my camera is at a friend's house) but it's 20 pages, half-size.

This issue is about moving out of my parents' house, my relationship and it's ups and downs while trying to find a place to live, mental health in an unstable environment, losing my pets, and ultimately moving back in with my parents.

Copies are $1.00 or two stamps. I will also consider…

Mad Hatter Distro & RatBrat #12

Posted on August 8, 2010 at 3:20pm 1 Comment

Hello All!,

I've had a rough few months since January. At the moment, I am trying to find my first apartment so that I can stop couch surfing, which is fun, but tiresome at times. I don't think I was built for roommates.

That said, I am still zining! Money's tight, but I just got a new job and should have photo copy funds in the near future. RatBrat #12 is nearly finished and should be interesting considering most of my art supplies are packed away somewhere…

Anyone want flyers made? (Plus possible "flyer trade")

Posted on December 17, 2009 at 1:03pm 5 Comments

Hey everyone,

I've been super bored all day and on a massive photoshop kick. I've been designing flyers for all my different projects, except now I'm out of projects to design them for. Does anyone want a flyer/flyers made up for their zine/distro/other project? I'm making them quarter-size, so I can do four of the same or four different ones to a page.

If you'd like some, just let me know what info you'd like on it and what style you're into (grungy, cute, vintage… Continue

Philly Zine Fest--I'm going!!!

Posted on September 19, 2009 at 7:59am 2 Comments

So my friend bailed on going to Philly Zine Fest with me and no one else will go. I found this out just now, at 10:00 in the morning on the day before. I thought I should feel some huge disappointment; I was going to miss this for the 5th year in a row.

And then I opened my mouth and let the question that was burning in the back of my throat fall out, there in my kitchen: "Mom, what would you do if I just went alone?"

"I'd be a little nervous," she said, "but if you want… Continue

Hi Mab! I got your zine in the mail today. I was just wondering if you ever got anything from me? I know we discussed trading quite a while ago, so I don't remember. If you didn't, let me know, and I'll pop something in the post for you asap :) And I'll let you know what I think of your zine as soon as I can get to it- from a brief flip through, it looks really good!

Hi there. I wondered if you'd be interested in trading zines with me? I noticed in your profile your zines are partly about bipolar - issue 1 of my zine has a long piece about my experience of it, medications I've been on etc.. Both issues of my zines are quite mental health related ... there's a link on my profile for more info - let me know if you're itnerested (& hopefully you will be! :D)
