My husband and I make Hell In A Handbasket, a Cincinnati zine focused on the local Cincinnati arts and music scene. We started out back in November of 2008, when we realized there weren't really any music zines in the area, and we've loved doing it ever since....
We distribute our zine old skool style by hitting the record stores, bars, tattoo shops, and music venues and shoving them in people's hot little hands! We do our issues about once every 6 weeks.
We review shows, interview underground bands, artists, and all the freaky people we meet (drag queens, fire eaters, roller derby girls, etc.). We write about grubby hole in the wall diners around town, do beer taste test reviews, and basically anything that will make people laugh, and become interested in getting away from their computers and out into the local scene.
We've met so many cool people and have a LOT of fun. It's truly a collaborative effort; we recruit our friends to help us print, fold, staple and distribute, as well as write the occasional piece. We also run a ning site for our readers to post discussions and meet each other. I won't get into that here - I wanted to join this, because I want to meet other people who are doing this because it's their passion - that inspires me more than anything....
