Breaking Out of the Zine Niche?

One area where you can encounter strong pushback from zinesters is to suggest that a zine writer or publication aspire to be more than a quirky local happening affecting few people.I've been a strong advocate of zine writing, because I recognize that at its best it's better than any shit being shoveled at us from the so-called literary mainstream-- which is in fact little more than an extension of "Big 5" conglomerate publishing. I'll go further than that and claim that zine writing is THE…See More

Allied Media Conference

Hello! www.newpoplit.com will have a table at the big Allied Media Conference (formerly a zinefest) in Detroit next weekend 6/19-21. We'll be selling a variety of books and zines (plus cool t-shirts) AND a limited number of sneak preview copies of the first issue of NEW POP LIT The Print Version-- which will be a unique hybrid, a mating between a zine and a literary journal. In other words, fun and serious writing both. Featured among the many talents in…See More

Zinester Published-- Need More!

Jim Gibson of HAND JOB ZINE is the latest great zine writer to go up at the NEW POP LIT site. We're looking for more awesome stories which are readable and fun-- and maybe not a little punk. The idea is to shake establishment literature out of its stodgy doldrums.Other terrific zine writers we've showcased include Jessie Lynn McMains (aka Jessica Disobedience) and Rey Harris. Our task-- to show there's more to reading than tame "New Yorker" stories. Help us make that point! Send fiction that…See More

Looking for Artists! And Other Talents

Hi. I'm the co-editor of a new website, NEW POP LIT, nearing readiness here:www.newpoplit.comOur launch date is August 16. While we're looking for fun, sharp, or punchy short stories (the work of several zinesters under serious consideration), we also seek original artwork to illustrate such stories. As a former zinester, I want to give this new project authenticity and edge. As well as a zine-like sense of fun and excitement. The only place in this…See More

Quest for the New Writer

NEW POP LIT, an upcoming new lit web site and print journal, is searching for talented DIY writers. We need fun, exciting or emotional short fiction, clearly written and well paced. Not craft so much as energy and the immediacy of experience. We seek stories and writers with verve and personality. The goal: to represent (as zines represent) an alternative to the same-old same-old.I'm a former zinester and activist. I've always believed that culture is created from the ground up, not imposed by…See More

I thought you might find this interesting. This is a perzine I did about a demonic experience I had that led me to Christianity. True story. I used to be on the borderlines of agnostic and atheist, and I was raised Buddhist, but this experience led me to God. I know now that Jesus Christ is real, and He certainly answers our prayers. Demons are also real, and deliverance ministries (all over the world) work to exorcise them out of people who have them through the occult and other sins.

It's a very short zine, I hope it qualifies as one. You can read the PDF form here: The%20Incubus%20a%20testimony.pdf
