I recently went to Pilot Books for the first time- what a cool little store! They are specializing in small press, lots of poetry, and they have a pretty good selection of zines that's bound to get better as their business builds. They are doing w...

Hi Kelsey! With silly luck, I just saw the message about the zine reading in Seattle today. I looked up at my dear friends sitting beside me with a saddened face as I realized the event was this very evening. I would have loved to participate. We're working on the layout for a project tonight, otherwise I would hop a bus in attempt to hear others read. Thank you for thinking of me. I hope it goes well and would be excited to hear about the conference!

love,

"Hello, Mr. Swank. I'm a big fan. I was wondering if you thought Ozzy the Lazy Ass Panda might come live with me and my family?

PS- I totally rocked out to that blind woman playing the armonica in the touristy Quaker church in Philly last summer! She's awesome."

Hey, Ozzy rolls where he wants, although I may suggest trying to lure him with waffles and stolen toiletries.

I am ecstatic that you were able to witness that woman rock the armonica! I had no idea where she was located, but now I may have to take a trip to the Philadelphia badlands to hear her for myself. I've always wondered what those things sound like.

Thanks for the Art Bureau praise! To answer your question: Katy Horan Gocco printed (and hand-assembled) the Deathly Spirits book herself.

Some pictures...

I had a tremendously awesome 24 Hour Zine Thing & Reading at my library, and I took some pictures during the reading. I wish I had thought to take pictures during the zinemaking portion of the event, which had over 20 attendees including an 8 year old and a 78 year old. At least 8 of the attendees completed zines (including the 8 year old!). The reading had over 40 attendees. I was boggled at the event's success, which was mostly due to the draw of 6 great zine readers...… Continue

Portland Zine Symposium

Well, I just got back from the 2009 Portland Zine Symposium, and I wanted to give you all some praise. This was the first year I've volunteered for the event, and I was very impressed with the cooperative spirit and overall positive vibe of this year's event. I also wanted to thank everyone who donated a zine to the Olympia Library's collection- you know who you are, and I thank you a hundred million times over. See y'all next year...

Thanks for creating this!

Hi, all. I'm Kelsey, and I live in Olympia. I've made a few zines in my life, and made even more artists' books. Mostly, though, I'm just a big fan of zines and a zine librarian. I created a zine collection for my library (Olympia Timberland Library) this year. We have over 200 zines in the collection so far, and it's growing slowly as time goes on. Anyhow, just wanted to introduce myself and thank Krissy for putting this forum together. I'll be looking to buy new zines for the library in our ne… Continue
