Profile Information

Snail Mail Junkie In Need of a Fix

Name: James N. Dawson

Address: P.O. Box 950, Spokane, WA  99210

Age: Well past youth.

Affliction: POB mail junkie.

Religion: Theravada Buddhist. More traditional/literal than most western Theravadins. Follow and regard Buddhism AS A RELIGION. Many would find me "dogmatic" or "doctrinaire", but I'm not overbearing or preachy about it. More negligent lately in my Dhamma practices than I should be. Needn't discuss religion. Just "laying it on the table". Write infrequent and irregular publication: DHAMMA LETTERS "Letters, Fragments, Essays. Critically Orthodox, Theravada Buddhist Perspective".

Politics: Animal-Rights Libertarianism. See:

Diet: Vegan

Other Interests:
ZINES---Self-Publishing/Networking/DIY/Simple Printing/Zines---Mimeograph, Ditto, Letter Press, Home Xerox,

Pre or Non-Internet/PC Entertainment Technology---radios, tape recorders, analogue TV, Stand-Alone Digital, Etc.

Philosophy---Critical Thinking, Ethics, Politics, Religion, Ideas and Consequences, Theory and Action, Individualism...

Mysteries/Unexplained---Cryptozoology (Sasquatch, Pteradactyl, Thunderbird....), Misc

Music---Alternative Rock, New Wave, Garage, Synth, Post Punk, Goth....

Movies & Pulp Fiction----mostly "intelligent horror", cult, silents, obscure, B....

Documentaries---mostly 60's through 80's

Warning: I often "recycle" my e-mails and letters to supplement my mailings. Let me know how you feel about this, and we'll take it from there. I may use letters I receive in my zines---TELL ME CLEARLY "DO NOT PRINT" if you don't want me to.
E-Mail Me If You Must, But Why Not Just Send Me Paper Mail at my POB! Zines, Movies, Mix Tapes, Etc. Also Welcome! Will Answer All!

MY TRADE POLICY: No need to arrange trades via e-mail. Just send me your zine via the USPS and I'll reciprocate! When my zine reaches you, it's yours to do with what you like, but I'd be grateful if you didn't destroy or "recycle" it with the newspapers---I bled an ocean and cried a river of tears creating my zines, and paid a pretty penny to print them. Please, pass it on to somebody who'd enjoy them, if you can. I try to "read the situation" and treat zines I get according to how their makers would like, but if you have any "do's, don't or druthers" about how you'd like your zine "disposed of" or "passed on" it'd be best to make these clear. THANKS!

hey!~  thanks so much for getting back to me!

yeah.. it seems like there is not a lot of stuff out there.  i knew about repeat-o-type but i went back to look and it lead me to a nothing site, so i have no idea what's up with that.  i think i joined that facebook group but honestly i almost never look at facebook, so i have no idea if anything is happening there?  at one point i heard about someone doing something (a class or something?) somewhere in toronto.. but that's way on the other end of the country for me.. so no help.

yeah it does seem like there is not a lot of interest or support in reviving old technology these days, which is sad..  i dont see why people think that new technology has to make old technology obsolete?  .. i have an old photocopier (early 1980s) that i love that i have been trying to get up and going again.. but ugh.. i found a new toner cartridge on ebay that exploded on me, and i got a refill kit but i think the cartridges i have are perhaps just too old.. they are just black..  and i am thinking that i might just have to give up on the poor thing.  the people at the refill place sell empty cartridges but told me that this one is too old they dont have any and wont be getting any.  so ugh...

if you ever get into a mimeo kick again and remember about me let me know what you find out!  i will still be around and my stuff will still be here..   i tend to just look into things in little spurts when i get the whim..

and if you can send me some issues of your old stuff that would be fantastic!  i would love to look at it!  my address is:  dystatic - po box 20083 rpo beverly - edmonton, ab canada - t5w 5e6

i hope you have a great weekend!~

hey!~  i hope your day is going well.  for some reason i had the idea to do a bit of a search on here and came across your name.. i have been looking for information for awhile, with not so much luck, about mimeograph type stuff.  thing is.. i got a gestetner 120 awhile ago, quite awhile ago, at a garage sale!  however.. i dont really know.. well, i dont know a lot.. i dont really know how to use it properly or where to find supplies.  and either there is not much info out there, or i just suck at looking for it.  from my little search on here it seems like you might have some knowledge of these things???  would you be willing to share that?  i am hoping so!~  please let me know if you can help in any way!  thanks so much!!!

Hi James. Thanks for your recent discussion of Stovetop Girl in JND Ads and Contacts. Though I have not seen the ad yet, I've received some really polite and professional requests for my zine as a result, including stamps or SASE. This speaks positively to your audience.

I sent an envelope to you recently that was sent back to me--maybe I wrote the address slightly wrong, or in a way the USPS computer couldn't read it? That's why I hesitate to send this comment via mail vs. here on We Make Zines. At any rate, next time I turn out something new (or if you'd like something I have already published), I'll send in trade with hopes of a JND zine in return. You have a unique voice (cynical, cranky, rational, realistic, empathetic), and I think you're holding up an important end of the papernet.

Please feel free to publish this comment in one of your zines, though I know you might oppose printing internet content. I'll print it and send it if I know I have the right address! :) --Kari

got your package...the second one you sent.  Thanks so much for resending.  In issue 3 I will be mentioning some of the zines sent my way.  I'm just wondering if you still write pterodactyl and Pseudozine?  I am replying to your LOC in Issue 3, and will be sending you some correspondence etc. after a while.  Thanks again, Paul.

I checked my P.O. Box yesterday, and to my great dismay I seem to have never received your recent mailing.  Any chance you can resend any of it?  I was hoping perhaps you had your letter saved on a computer.  Could you perhaps send your zine with my correspondence published?  If you need some funds to re-send it, let me know, and I will help out.  Just to reiterate, I'm at:

Hey James...just wondering where you are in your latest zines.  I'm a bit paranoid and don't trust the post office employees ability to put the right mail in the right box.  Always getting crap from other P.O. boxes etc.

James, wondering if you ever received issue 2 of my zine?
