It seems I started Canada's very first self-published music fanzine. It was quite by accident, however:
The Pig Paper began life as a mock-concert program sold outside a 1975 performance by The Who in Toronto, yet within two years had thousands of subscribers worldwide and gave good people such as The Viletones, XTC, Simply Saucer, The Saints, Half Japanese and even Jandek some of their first-ever extensive press coverage. Somehow, there was still space left over its pages for Buddy Holly, The Kinks, and naturally the Bay City Rollers as well.
Soon enough there was a Pig Records label, then my syndicated-all-over-the-place Pigshit column, which first appeared circa 1979 in Flipside and still appears on a regular, as in monthly basis here, there, and everywhere fine music is listened to and yakked about.
Yes. We Make Zines. Some of us actually end up making history too, it seems.
