a place for zinesters - writers and readers

The ULA had a table of its new $5 zinebooks at the renowned old block party, the "Dally in the Alley" in the supposedly ultraviolent Cass Corridor of Detroit. Thousands of locals partied all day and night. Fun everywhere. Bands, booze, a sideshow just down from us. We sold a lot of zinebooks! The general public seemed receptive to the ULA cause. Detroit has a great no-holds-barred up-front zero-overhead style. It's receptive to new things. It's a rare affordable urban area. Much of the culture is DIY (since it's lost so much infrastructure). Yet there's still a classic core -- it's walkable -- the air is clean -- the danger is way overplayed -- NYC in the 80's was far worse than Detroit today. Seems like it's readying for an upswing.
