"THIS IS FRANKSTON" A Community Zine Project
It's time we started thinking about collaborative zine projects!
At the January social catch up we discussed a few possible topical points about frankston city, and I think we should put these, and any others you can think of, together in the form of a community zine project.
The end result is intended to be a documented, real depiction of how frankston  is seen and lived in and what it means to by those that live/work/visit here. This zine will contain words and images drawn from our time spent in frankston: our experiences; honest and raw memories; celebrated and mourned positive and negative and perfectly ugly and conflictingly beautiful all at once - all of it!
Submission forms are available from local hangouts & the submission box is in the frankston libraries foyer. 1ST ROUND SUBMISSIONS DUE 31st MARCH.

I have had so many amazing opportunities lately, facilitating a range of creative workshops across Melbourne. This progression from a love of sharing zines and encouraging children and young adults to express themselves through this medium has developed into a hash-tag of a career of sorts for me, and I couldn't be happier.
Expect to see many more workshops in the future via A Zine Thing.

"Its time we had a zine thing on the peninsula!"
Tasha & Comrade Harps conclusion to a lengthy conversation, post Punk Milk exhibition in 2011.

So, who are we?

'A Zine Thing' began as a Frankston based zine collective in 2012. We wanted to create a local zine scene. We arranged meet ups with fellow zinesters to discuss, write, read, make, share, create, trade, illustrate, collaborate & celebrate everything zine related.

Locally, we have had cafe catch ups, held numerous workshops, occupied space at Frankston library & other public spaces, made zine trades, collaborated on projects, built up our traveling zine library collection, launched our ongoing community zine project/s #ThisIsFrankston & #IsThisFrankston?, tabled at fairs, talked on panels regarding community building and such and even held our inaugural ZINEVENT @ Cube 37 this year (2014).

What's next?

2015 is looking like it will be a turning point for A Zine Thing.

As I, Tasha, have increasingly taken on more workshops outside of Frankston the role of the name 'A Zine Thing' has evolved into more of a facilitation vehicle for numerous creative endeavors and has become less of a community collective and more of a personal pursuit.

I still intend to arrange as many local opportunities to get together and get our zine on, and my comrade, harps, will I hope still consult and work with me to ensure the continuation of the tumblr and publication of a Frankston based community zine annually, and hopefully another ZINEVENT too.

Frankston is our home, the conglomerate creative pool of influence that we cannot deny was reason behind this things birth, we will always be a part of Frankston, like it or not. Zines ♥ Frankston.

So, we have been busy. Zine Things aplenty.
Watch this space! Stay tuned for upcoming events! Get in touch!
