We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Any things that work or totally fail?

- One thing learned from Richmond Zine Fest fundraising in 2008... NO yard sales on the hottest day of the year!

We've had people ask us to host a zine networking event... but ummm... from my experience... isn't that what the zine fest is for?

Any ideas on doing zinester mixers or anything of that nature?

I'd like to do Richmond Zine Fest in 2009 with putting up as little of my own cash/personal belongings as possible.

Hello.

I co-organise the Wollongong City Gallery Zine Fair, which is now in its second year. We don't have to worry about fundraising because we get funding through the gallery, but this year we decided to put on a gig at the end of the day and for that we needed to find some cash.

I spoke with a local independent music store and organised to hire their music equipment free of charge, which is a great help to us. And to pay our bands, we will be asking for donations at the door, as well as having a bake sale during the day. We've asked all of our friends to donate some cake to our bake sale, easy! I expect this will make around $100.

The best way of fundraising for this kind of event however, is applying for council grants. ;) You should check out what kind of art and community grants your local coucil runs.

An another idea.. hottest day of the year? You should totally make lemonade. Lemonade stall! Cute!
i guess this reply is too late... but we are currently planning to organize an event... its not explisively for zines, rather it hopes to showcase different independent creative efforts of indie artists (visual/literary/performing). right now were are still trying to find people who will commit into donating copies of their works. Like one photographer is letting us choose 5 works from his entire portfolio, which we can print as many copies as we want...these copies will be sold for a few bucks as part of the fundraiser in the event.

any tips or disclaimers from eppoe who have already done something like this?
For the Brighton zinefest we do a gig just before the actual zine fair, with bands who are also zinesters and that makes most of the money to cover venue hire and so on.
