December news from ZAPP:

Calling all Volunteers! Monday, December 14 is the Volunteer Orientation for Hugo House and ZAPP. If you're interested in learning more about Hugo House and/or ZAPP stop by at 6pm and hang out for a bit, we need your help in 2010. We have Open Hour shifts, zine reviews, zine research....

On Wednesday December 16 we're hosting Lightning Hours in ZAPPand the Member Library. This is time for you (yes you!) to come in and use all the cool materials we have at ZAPP to make or finish that zine you've been talking about. We'll be open for Lightning Hours from4pm-9pm. Remember we have typewriters, long-armed staplers and a light table for you to use!

ZAPP is hosting a FREE workshop on Stamps and Image Transfer on Saturday December 19. Come and learn how to stamp and transfer images for an amazing and unique cover for your zine or project. http://www.hugohouse.org/content/zapp-classes

2 new ZAPP internships are now posted so spread the word:

I know this is kind of ridiculous but I made a ZAPP profile to have linked to our work email...thanks though for setting the group up David!

I have some very sad news to share: One of the original co-founders of ZAPP (originally 'ZAP'), Gary Greaves, has passed away. I got a chance to meet and talk with him for a few minutes at ZAPP's open house last fall. I found him encouraging and inspiring, and could see where ZAP got some of its powerful primordial spark. There will be a memorial for Gary on Friday (today):

Friday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m.
Central Lutheran Church, 1710 11th Avenue, on Seattle’s Capitol Hill
(This, I believe, is the church next to the Richard Hugo House.)

Many of you know this already, but for those of you who don't, there will be a Zine Librarians UnConference at ZAPP in mid-March. Here's the link for the press release...
