Hey all, I have a new Vapour Trails 'zine out. It's called Ethnicity & Existentialism (it's not philosophical, but it is about race and representation, as well as my personal experiences as a mixed person of colour). It's a little all over the place, but it took a long time to put together. Each page's background is painted with watercolours and it is 21 half-sized pages.
$5 to help me break even from those god awful colour photocopy costs (after I make it back I'll consider trades, but not quite yet!)

Muchacha fanzine Issue #9 “Body Positivity” CALLS OUT TO POC, trans* folks, disabled badasses, women, curvy/voluptuous/fat/thick Goddesses/Gods/Genderqueers, and lesbians/gays/bis/queers to submit poetry, prose, art, comics, photography, quotes, scripts, musical lyrics, ramblings, etc. concerning body positivity. Submissions are very open to interpretation and can include but are not limited to discussions/art related to how race, gender, size, sexuality, able-bodiedness, age, and class intersect with ideas related to body positivity and/or embodiment.

Contact me at Riotgrrrl56@yahoo.com with submissions. The deadline is Tuesday, July 1st and all contributors will receive a free copy when this edition is released in mid-July!

Note: *This edition of Muchacha aims to challenge the mainstream white/heterosexual/able-bodied/cisgender-centric feminist movement of “body positivity” that has and continues to exclude/ignore the fact that many marginalized people have distinct experiences with their bodies that are often underrepresented in our society. Another goal of this summer issue is to reclaim the term “body positivity” in a way that is inclusive of diverse voices and encourages reflectivity on how bodies can also be cause for pain, conflict, and/or healing.

Hey friends! I recently posted a blog post about my zine and my connection to the zine community. I also put a bunch of my zines up on my etsy shop. I'd love it if you could check them out! <3

I didn't know that male feminists existed. But, I am a feminist.

Everywhere All The Time #2: Bright Sunny Days, Dark Sacred Nights is the second issue of my travel media zine featuring stories from a year spent traveling and living in Ecuador. From hiking in the northern highlands to a shack on the Pacific coast, the zine spans terrain, time and mood through text and black and white photos. The writing is influenced by my identities – queer, mestiza, POC, feminist, writer, weirdo – and is cut by quotes from Junot Díaz, Gloria Anzaldúa and James Baldwin. 36 pages, typewritten/handwritten and some computer writing, black and white with color cover. Order (on Etsy) here!

Women of Color: How to Live in the City of Roses and Avoid the Pricks

DEADLINE: Sunday, October 13th 2013

So, what’s the theme this time? Women OFF color:

“the term: off-color humor (also known as vulgar humor or crude humor) an Americanism used to describe jokes, prose, poems, black comedy, blue comedy, insult comedy, cringe comedy and skits that deal with topics that are considered to be in poor taste or overly vulgar…”

Despite this definition, PLEASE be conscientious of NOT using oppressive language regarding your submission.

What we are looking for:

Humorous short stories/witty jokes
(particularly observations about being a woman of color in Portland, OR)
Laugh out loud comics
Kinky-erotic poetry/short stories/drawings
Funny games/puzzles/etc
Interviews with the funniest woman of color/women of color you know
Essays/history on the humor of women of color/how humor has been used
to resist oppression
Reviews of funny books, movies, television shows, stand up, etc. of women of color artists

Anything else I’m forgetting…

PLEASE write/edit as how you would like to see your piece published..We do try to scan/proofread but overall your words are your own. And sometimes we just won’t catch everything. Submission lengths can be between 2-3 pages.

Instructions for typing your piece for WOC zine. We want to type so we can cut and paste onto a page that’s 8.5″ tall, 5.5″ long. (our zine is 8 1/2 x 11 paper folded in half). Open a document in Word. When I do this, the default left margin setting, on the ruler at top, is at 0, between a-1″ and a positive 1″. Leave it there. Type your piece, but hit the return when you get as far as the 3 3/4″ mark. This will create a long column of writing (you can also try resetting your right hand margin to stop it there) to cut and paste. Type a sample paragraph. Print it. Cut it out and see if it will fit OK on the size page listed above
