Hey,

Just to let you know, issues #1 and #2 of my feminist perzine, Here. In My Head, are available to buy or trade!

#1 features written pieces about not shaving, the ongoing need for feminism in university, body image, being questioned for writing strong feminist lyrics, and my experiences joining the university's Songwriting Society.

#2 features introspective pieces about my musical and creative development from childhood, anger and betrayal, drunken thoughts on sexist jokes, and insecurities caused by a sexist magazine article.

I used to live in a tiny town in the middle of the English countryside and I knew more people that made zines then than I do now that I live in London. I think living in a big city can be just as isolating if you don't manage to find the right gang.

I wanted to trade rare weird movies with people in my area, but ended up meeting more people from all over instead. I've made a lot of friends that I've corresponded with for years, long before I even had internet, we just used to write by mail. Some of them still don't have the internet, so we still do. I used to try to sell or trade some of my `zines, but now I don't, it's just fun & nice to hear compliments about it!

I live in the woods where no one has ever heard of a zine unless I tell them about it. Most people appear atleast vaguely interested, and I pass all sorts of zines around, but I don't know of anyone besides me around here who collects them.

You's think in a city the size of San Diego someone other than me would publish, or at least appreciate `zines! But apparently not, not even my friends and co-workers will have anything to do with mine. So yes, I'm a lonely `zinester!

It's weird-there probably are more zinesters in my area but I just don't hang w/ 'em. They may not like my sillyness and crude humor, anyway.
