looking for submissions for the queer feminist compilation zine, hoax, for its 6th issue: feminisms & communication!

potential ideas for material include, but are not limited to:

• how  we utilize the various creative mediums to express ourselves: ie  art/music/playwriting/dance/zines etc.
• language: terminology / identifications / labels / who is allowed to use certain terms / reclamation
• media: various types / their historical & cultural relevancy / effectiveness for social change / the decline of print media / online activism & social justice movements
• visibility: how we choose to communicate our identities (verbally and non verbally) / how different communication styles “out” us / secrecy / how we talk & to whom / where do you draw the line in sharing certain information (online, at yr job etc.)
• non-verbal communication: how we “read” and then judge others / body politics & gendered expressions (“passing” and “body work”)
• consent: expressed vs. body language / legacy of shitty health class information / talking about queer and/or non-normative sex
• silence: when not to speak / boundaries
• relationships: communicating different with various friends, partners, family members, strangers etc.
• emotion: how it gets intertwined with communication & makes it more or less effective / intensity & whether it will hinder someone’s account as being believable (“too angry” “hysterical”) 
• disagreements: how do and should we communicate our ideas to those who disagree with us? / “tone arguments” / should a person with a marginalized identity have to “play nice” when talking to somebody who has privilege over them? / “call outs” & accountability processes / expressing hate & anger
• the self: self-care / where the self ends & community begins / expressing yr needs / creating & sustaining personal boundaries
• accessibility: geographic accessibility / accessibility to language / pretension / the “academic industrial complex” 
• networking: action / teamwork / friendships
• space: physical / emotional 
• legislation: policy / community organizing / the importance of local action

we also totally need lots of artwork (photos, collages, illustrations, drawings, paintings, comics, etc.)! particularly for background designs and things that compliment the written material.

please aim to submit yr amazing material to hoaxzine@gmail.com by october 1st, 2011. if you are interested, feel free to e-mail us yr ideas for topics & artwork!  while we are not totally inflexible with the submission date, we are also not in a position where we can continually push it back like we have with previous issues. the sooner you send us yr work, the better! people of all genders are welcome to submit!

also, we are still distributing back issues of hoax #2 (although we are almost out of our last print!) hoax #3, hoax #4 & hoax #5. please email us if you would like to obtain any of these issues!

it’s been nearly two and a half years since we first began working on hoax. neither of us can believe how much this project has expanded since then! thank you so much to every contributor, reader, & supporter of this zine!

we are looking forward to seeing yr work!

my new perzine, reimagining queer community, is finished!

reimagining queer community is a personal investigation into my evolving relationship to queerness, as well as some of the ways in which i navigate queer spaces around me. some of the topics in this zine include: alienation and estrangement from the queer community, what it means to feel connected, the myth of a cohesive queer community, being a spectator versus being a participant, (personal and shared) queer histories, and potential strategies to build new alliances.  

this was my first attempt at making a twenty four hour zine (it wound up taking three days due to work/life interruptions, but who’s counting?) it is 20 pages, 1/4 sized and text heavy. i am asking for $1 or a trade. if you are interested, please email uniunverse@gmail.com.

Ideological Hypocrisy is a socio-political zine, the first issue of which covers anti-choice activists who choose to have abortions. The zine contains many accounts from abortion doctors who have preformed abortions for pro-life activists, as well as accounts of violence perpetuated by the pro-life movement.

call for submissions - hoax #5: feminism & community

 here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

• elitism (identity politics, border policing, & hierarchies within communities)
• cliques & exclusivities
• success & personal stories
• the environment (food politics & urban gardening & eco-feminism & women in farming/farm lands)
• accessibility (language & locations (urban vs rural) & academia & pretention & childcare)
• work/ production (economics & capitalism)
• social movements (then vs now - legacy of the 60s)
• assimilation vs liberation (when, if, and how to assimilate)
• the self (self-care & where the self ends and community begins)
• what makes a community (how does one feel included? & how do we include others & what it means to find a “home” (limits of family))
• networking (action & teamwork & friendship)
• “diversity” and what that means (do we need varieties of people in order to constitute a community? & tolerance vs acceptance (cultural relativity))
• space (physical/ emotional)
• legislation (policy & community organizing)
• love (hate & anger)

we also totally need lots of artwork (photos, collages, illustrations, drawings, paintings, comics, etc.)! particularly for background designs and things that compliment the written material.
