Laurel Aitken Inside Out

Here's a fantastic piece on Laurel "the Godfather of Ska" Aitken from the BBC's "Inside Out" TV program (which must have aired in fall 2010) that provides a good overview of his career--and features interviews with Buster Bloodvessel (Bad Manners), Charley Anderson (The Selecter), Roy Ellis (Symarip), Neville Staple and Lynval Golding (The Specials), Mark Wyeth (Club Ska), and Sandra Aitken (his wife) all commenting on Laurel's life, his extraordinary impact on ska music, and his many musical achievements.

Roy Ellis - You Can't Leave Now

THE WARRIOS ENGLAND

Our country bought down to its knees
Too many apologies and saying please
Too long now our heads have bowed
Not colour of skin or sexual preference
Not money or greed or the right connections
Where honour and pride are earnt not bought
I want an England I can love
Not ruled by status but passion in blood
And the dreams from childhood could be attained

I love my England
Yes I love my England
Am I an Englishman alone

No racist message in the Saint George flag
No hidden agenda, no master plan
Just our banner of hope for a better land
I will not follow, I will not beg
And say out loud the words in my head
I am English and I am proud

Coz I love my England
Yes I love my England
And I am an Englishman and proud

Break

I am not homophobic, I am not a racist
I am not religious, I am not a fascist
I don't want everyone to look the same
Maybe I'm naïve, maybe I'm a fool
But my words are honest and my passion is true
So put aside all hatred and say out loud

We love our England
Yes we love our England
And we are the English folk and proud
We love our England
Yes we love our England
And we are the English folk and proud

Coz we are English Folk and we are proud
Yes we are English Folk and we are proud
Coz we are English Folk and we are proud
Yes we are English Folk and we are proud
I love my England
Yes I love my England
And I am an Englishman and proud
