Muchacha Issue #4 Winter 12’

“The Funny Female Issue”

In the midst of the whole “feminism & comedy” debate this summer after the Daniel Tosh fiasco (where he told a girl in the audience that he would find it amusing if she were gang raped), people were beginning to make false claims that feminists were being “too serious” and couldn’t “take a joke”.

I thought about how the feminists in my life are the most hilarious people I have ever known. I reflected upon the funny female comedians, writers and humorous women on television that I have listened to, read and watched for years. I knew what the next theme of my fanzine needed to be…

This diverse 38 page issue contains a variety of submissions and pieces from hilarious self-identified feminists. Subject matter ranges from feminist performance pieces (“Size 2 Pants”-Guerrilla Girls on Tour!, “How to seduce a feminist”-Sarah Fox), Feminist Disney, comics ( “The Migrant Rights Activista on Her 21st B-day” “El Senor Bobo..”) the five stages of death concerning feminism within pop, men’s menstruation, satirical feminist songs, the debate between comedy and feminism itself, feminist jokes, Female Comics of Color, Samantha Bee on Abortion, “The Wisdom of Fran Lebowitz”, Daria Morgendorffer, fictional heroines and more! This issue is dedicated to every feminist who has ever been labeled “too angry” “too serious” or “too uptight”.

after over a year in the making, this zine is finally finished!

Thou Shalt Not Talk About The White Boys’ Club: Challenging The Unwritten Rules of Punk [click for excerpts]

Touted as being a home for society’s rejects, outcasts, and ‘alternative’ political stances, punk unfortunately often ends up reinforcing oppressive mindsets and ideals by setting up numerous unwritten rules for dress, behavior, personal choices, identifications, and so much more. This zine, written by sari of Hoax and You’ve Got a Friend in Pennsylvania, aims to direct conscious attention to the nuances of being a marginalized person, namely a Gender and Sexuality Minority (GSM), in the punk community. Includes questions intended to incite dialogue among readers and their friends as well as a short list of recommended resources concerning marginalized experiences in punk. B&W, 34 pages, & text heavy. US$2.50. [etsy / well-hidden cash or trades]

HEY GUYS. So basically I'm writing a zine, kind of like a publication about the school girl phenomena etc. I'm going to write about the history of women's education and the school girl as an icon of culture. To make this work I'm going to need SUBMISSIONS.
so like if you guys have any anecdotes or comments or doodles or just anything about your experience in highschool that you think would be great for the zine I would love your input.

Hello! I'm starting an online alternative zine aimed at teenage girls, but of course you do not have to like alternative culture, be a girl, or be a teenager in order to like the zine! All types of content with a feminist perspecitve(meaning non-degrading) is welcomed! Articles(writing), poetry, art, rants, etc. is accepted daily! You can also apply for the team, which is the groups of writers/artists/poets/etc. who submit their content on a weekly/monthly basis, and gain great exposure for their work, while helping make the zine the best that it can be! The zine is Spud Zine, which can be found on spudzine.tumblr.com  !!!!!! Be sure to send me a message via tumblr or send content at rockogirl@hellokitty.com

Thank you!!!
