We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Revenge Of Print!

2011 has been declared the Revenge of Print, because we're all tired of "the end of publishing as we know it" stories. Revenge of Print is a campaign to get as many people as possible to self-publish in 2011!

I just published my second and third zines of 2011. SIgnals #5 (Radio/Media Zine) is available for $4. One Minute Zine Reviews (zine & music review zine) is available for $2. This year in print is going to rock!

For my second ROP event, I am demonstrating (not a workshop) "How To Make A Zine Using Scissors and Glue" at a St. Petersburg, Florida boutique. It is limited to 15 people and will be about one and a half hours. It's free, but a donation to the boutique is suggested. It is halfway filled now. I may repeat it in July (Zine Month) at a new 'Free School' that is starting up. Print Forever

I just joined. My first project? To ACTUALLY finish a zine, and more importantly actually print it as well! Let's see how it goes!

Fresh off the press: It's FruitYoga!

It's 20 pages of total fun with fruits demonstrating yoga asanas or poses.
All illustrations were done by moi, in watercolor, with English and Sanskrit yoga asana terms.
Pages/cover were hand-sewn together.

Limited edition of 50 copies.

For RoP, I had a custom t-shirt made. On the back is 'Make A Zine!' in black letters with a rectangular border that makes it look like a magazine. I ordered one t-shirt for under $20 at a t-shirt printer that uses a commercial inkjet t-shirt printer (look for 'one to hundreds' ads). I didn't trademark it, so make one yourself and wear them to small events and large festivals.

My first Revenge of print project for 2011 is SIGNALS #4 - a half-sized, 58 page radio / media focused zine with articles about DXing programs, interviews with WRMI & Wavescan's Jeff White, The Voice of Next Thursday, Lew Houston, The Mystery Science Radio crew, and a lot more. This issue has a fair balance of shortwave and low power FM info.

Issue #5 is already coming to fruition as is a new perzine project called Night Train.

While I have all the issues of The Original Universe to date archived on efanzines.com in PDF, print copies get mailed first. The archive is just extra advertising; it actually gained me a new reader/letter writer so far.

If I don't have an issue copy on hand I print out the PDF and make a copy to mail.
