I am writing an article about We Make Zines for the upcoming issue of Zine World. I want to ask some folks some questions. If anyone in this group wants to participate, message me and I'll send the questions to you. Thanks!

I've been host and co-host before (for both individual's readings and group readings and informal workshops). And I've been the feature before, and simply been to open mics before. Most of the time it's not really related to zines as much as poetry chapbooks and books or simply sharing poetry.

I had a really great poetry reading last Friday night. A couple dozen people were there, mostly friends, it's true, but still an excellent turnout. Folks were really into my poems and I left them wanting more (to brag on myself a little). I sold many issues of my zines and had a really good time.

Do other folks give readings? Do folks find readings a helpful way to get their zines out into the world?

If folks who have not done readings are interested in doing so, I would be so happy to share what's worked for me as far as making it happen.

I am working on a poetry project. Here are the bare bones details:

A Poem a Day
An Exercise for January 2009

1) Write some poetry each day during the month of January 2009.

2) Give yourself full permission to write mostly crap. The exercise does not call for a great poem or even a complete poem every day. The object of the exercise is to get you writing.

3) Spend February doing whatever you want with the poems you wrote in January. Ignore them. Revise them. Add bits of them together. Use all the titles to make another poem. Whatever.

4) On March 1, send me the best of what came out of your January writing and your February whatever. Send me your best pieces (one or two or even three really short ones, but no than will fit on a 8½” x 5½” page), and I will compile all I get into a booklet. All contributors get a free copy of the booklet. (Send a one or two sentence bio too, so readers can learn a bit about you.)

If you are interested, please add me as a friend or send me your email address so we can contact each other directly.

I am not interested in being associated with anything sexist, racist, homophobic, etc., so if I feel like any poetry submitted is that kind of bad news, I will contact the poet for a discussion before publishing.

WHIP has it's first ever issue out and we'd love to swap with anyone! it would be really great to swap with some other poetry zines to see what everyone else is up to.
WHIP is full of poetry, a bit of prose, some photographs and a drawing. if you're interested in swapping, just send us a message.

hi, i edit a little poetry zine called woven. issues #4, 5 and 6 are available for trade, or postage, or a nice letter with a poem in it. issue #7 is currently seeking submissions with the theme "science fiction" - please interpret as specifically or as broadly and tangentially as desired. woven has a webpage with more information and news.

Ah, I didn't see that this thread went from most current to least current and not vice versa, when I read the last few posts.
