If anyone participated in the A Poem A Day project in January and wants a poem included in the A Poem A Day booklet, please contact me immediately by sending me an email or adding something to my comment wall. I am beginning layout on the booklet and need all contributions and bios right away.

I went to a poetry writing workshop today, hosted by my district of the Kansas Authors Club. I was the youngest person in the room by 15 to 20 years (and I am nearly 40!) Anyway, the presenter was Brian Daldorph, and we wrote sonnets!

I have always been intimidated by sonnets and have never tried to write one. But after today, I am crazy about them. Brain allows for a lot of leeway in the writing of sonnets, which is quite helpful, especially for a beginner.

What really got me excited was Brian's book From the Inside Out. Every poem in the book is a sonnet (or at least STRONGLY based on that form), but none of them are love poems or happy little confections. The people in these poems are having troubles, and the poems are so GOOD! I bought his book, I who hardly ever buy new books. I think it's the best $10 I've spent in a long time.

If you like sonnets or even if you don't, I encourage you to check out this book. If you don't want to buy it on my suggestion, ask your library to buy it for the collection or to get it for you through interlibrary loan.

A Poem a Day READY!

This zine that is ready is the culmination of my writing for the A Poem a Day exercise. It's not the big compilation zine containing work by many poets. This one is just me.

I am asking $2 or cool trade for it. It has over twenty new poems, all by me. It's 22 pages, 8 and 1/2 by 5 and 1/2.

I think it's great! I hope other people will think so too.

To order it, write to me at

Dear Poetry Zinesters -
Whip is compiling their new issue based on 'living in places' and Whip would love to have your work to feature!
As long as the theme of the writing is boadly (very braodly) living somewhere then you should submit something! Whip is primarily looking for off-beat, unusual writing that could be word-art, poems made from the notes on a piano, haiku, super-ultra-traditional structured poems, sonnets, poems in the street, cut-up poetry... whatever.
Please send any and all submissions to whipmagazine -at- yahoo -dot- -co- -dot- -uk- before valentines day.
Thank you,
Yours,
Whip

Have you heard about Poetry Out Loud?

It's a national contest where high school students recite "great" poems from memory. I was a judge yesterday at my area's regional competition. It was a lot of fun, and folks totally appreciated me taking my time to judge.

I'm trying to spread the word so folks can get involved locally.

You can read more about it here http://www.poetryoutloud.org/

i have 2 zines with poetry in them. one's a collaboration with other folks and art, and the other's my own art with haiku. one of these days i'll get around to doing a proper full length zine with fantabulous illustrations.
one's called drawings and haiku, and the other is eve art interactions.
