I've only been active sporadically in the WMZ community, but I do have a new perzine, if anyone is interested in a copy.  It's called Like Lightning and it's a short, personal, collection of vignettes on the following topics: apostasy; waiting; beauty; “Difficult? Well, learn it;” voices; latency; women, men and fiction; unclaimed bodies; hate; his biggest complaint; the malignancies of men; crumbling; neurological misfires; what is hidden behind the cynicism; crushes; first steps; Smog; and brutal dichotomies. Probably extremely obviously influenced by Anne Carson. 24 quarter-sized pages, with a sparkly black cover.

Anyone want to trade? Or just want a copy? Message here or email me: peel_the_moon@hotmail.com.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!!

the theme is pathology, inspired both by my job in a hospital and a giant pathology textbook i couldn't resist buying.  pathology can refer to the study of disease, viruses and bacteria, cancers and infections--but it can also evoke 'normal' or 'typical' reactions or expressions taken to an extreme ('pathological gambling', etc.).

of course, this definition of what is pathological requires a set standard of what is normal, which varies from community to community--and i would guess many of us don't live up to.  the interesting thing to me is the difference between the definition and how we live our lives.

thoughts of possible topics that most immediately come to mind:
* disability / ableism / accessibility
* mental illness / intellectual disability / psychotropic medications / alternative treatments
* non-monogamy / choosing to be single / not getting married / getting married
* sexuality / asexuality / kinks / etc
* pop culture / the love of glitter / the love of tattered black t-shirts
* healing / health / the medical system
* the overlap and dischord between different communities / scenes / cliques
* political & community organizing: how it works, how it fails us
* the list could go on and on....

i am looking for writing and art that is easily photocopied in a half-page format (8.5 by 11, folded so the 8.5 ends touch each other).  i'm open to different mediums and formats, although any terrible poetry will be immediately recycled.  i'm also open to varying genres: funny, sad, personal, fictional, etc.... my last compilation zine had poetry, a recipe, memoir, and lists, and i'm hoping to replicate the same eclectic format.

also, i hope to reprise the "things i love that i shouldn't" and "things i should love that i don't" lists from whatever saves #1, so please send me your thoughts on that as well.

contributions can be sent to:

deadline is july 1st.

please include contact information so i can send you a copy of the zine(s)

can't wait to see what y'all come up with.

Hi. I write Cadillac Girl, a perzine that I started in 2004. After being on a 6 year break, I'm starting it back up again. Issue three is in process. Feel free to contribute, request a copy of past issues, or trade. Issue three is going to be about how things have changed since the last time I published CG; graduating college, becoming a mother and a wife, and finding myself again. Also, check out the web page http://cadillacgirlzine.webs.com  Thanx!

Trans/Genderqueer Zine Project Call For Submissions

Topic: Essays, anecdotes, comix, collage, & poetry from trans and genderqueer folks telling stories of adolescence and puberty. Take that as broadly or narrowly as you'd like; literally how your body was changing and how your brain was dealing with it, or going to a dance and how that made you feel, to coming out to your family, friends, teachers & classmates.

Audience: 7-12th grade students.

Specifics: The pieces should be free of cursing and super overt sexual content.

Why/Purpose: Puberty and adolescence are hard for everyone but it's extra alienating and difficult when you feel alone and or radically different from everyone else. I want this zine to be an offering to trans and gender queer kids who need to see themselves in print, to know that they are not alone. I want the stories to offer comfort and hope to some young people who may be struggling. I would like the zine to be a resource for trans and gender queer students and a way to open the eyes and hearts of cisgendered students, parents, and teachers.

Send submissions to Brilliantmistake01@gmail.com

Please send as a basic word document with "Zine Submission" in the subject line. Art submissions should be 300 dpi scans or for bitmap line art 600 or more.

Send submissions by June 1, 2011. Feel free to e-mail me at Brilliantmistake01@gmail.com with any questions.

Thanks!

Carrie

Pieces 6.5 & My Aim is True 5
Perzine 1/4 size : 82 pages
This is a split with my friend Carrie and while we tell two very different stories about body issues, there are many underlying threads that are the same. Pieces covers a long-waged battle against acne. My Aim is True covers a struggle with weight. Both are about the need for self-acceptance, self-love, and the people who helped get us there.

Available for $2 or trade.

Any Old Iron #2 is out and ready to swap. A happy concoction of doodles, colouring in, a recipe, a wordsearch, as well as articles and letters. :-)

neither doll houses nor tree houses: on living outside of the gender binary

finished in under 24 hours for the chicago zine fest, this zine focuses on the ups and downs of finding myself outside of the gender binary and attempts to both de- and re-construct various questions about my own gender as well as gender in general. three separate sections discuss feeling pushed out of femininity, how masculinity is viewed as inherent and femininity is viewed as a fictitious performance, how striving for the “perfect balance” of two genders is not plausible nor an adequate solution, acceptance or tolerance (or neither) that i feel in specific spaces, how my radical friends misgender and disrespect me more often than my non-radical ones, the (non-) accessibility of queer jargon and language, how coming out has garnered me the most intense gender assumptions yet, dealing with friends who don’t “get it”, my desire to validate my own identity without stepping on the identity of others, and checking white privilege. 32 pgs, ½ size, b&w. $2-3 or trade. message me or e-mail youvegotafriendinpa (at) gmail (dot) com for more info!
