Thanks, Jethro . . . In case anyone may have missed it . . . I started a discussion about the Mini Zine Folks Collaboration Zine. Please go check out all the info and details there.

For now, I'm giving the "How-To" zine some thought . . . what to do mine on?

Kudos to Doreen! Taking charge in the Mini Zine group! Thank you! Doreen if you wan tot head up the charge for the collaboration zine, put together the requirements and deadline and post it in the Discussion Forum so all who want to join (I will for sure) can. All your ideas sound great!

Hi all! I just created my first mini zine titled The Story of a Broken Girl. Its 8 pages in length and is printed in black and white.  I would love to get some trades going if anyone is interested.

Awesome! I'll try to have a How-to zine ready for the trade. ^__^

I would also say submissions could be anywhere from 1-3 pages of copy? If we have 14 people respond (like with swap #3) we could end up with a fairly think book. I could deal with .jpg files or plain text (that I could copy and paste) so submissions could be either visual or written text. I wouldn't want to have to re-type someone's copy and/or get into any real editing responsibilities. So I would vote for an easy copy and paste o whatever is submitted. This sounds like it would work to me.

I would be okay with hosting the collaboration zine if no one else wants to do it.

If I  might suggest a format . . . I'd say a half-page size, vertical, format (approx. 5" x 7" size). The actual size doesn't matter so much as the proper proportions.

I would be willing to set it up in .pdf format and post it so everyone could print their own copies. That seems like the best sollution with very little expense. Let everyone print out as many copies of the zine as they desire.

We should work from a theme to make it cohesive, though. Any ideas on that? Just something off the top of my head . . . if we make it have a due date/deadline at the end of September, perhaps something like "What I did on my summer vacation" kind of thing. I'm thinking something kind of retro, but it could be anything. This would give lots of latitude to take it in any direction with almost any message you want to feature.

Ok For everyone interested in the next HOW TO swap, we will make the zines 1/4 size, page count however is all up to you, I don't want anyone to feel  limited or overwhelmed, but i do agree with Colin try to make your zine more than 4 pages. As for the collaboration zine, I agree too, I would need time and would like them to be done separately as well. I do like the idea of whoever collaborates it making a pdf to print, that's pretty cool and then you could print out copies to give to friends! I'll post up the swap info soon with a deadline of August 31st. Anyone want to handle the collaboration zine?

yeah 1/4 size sounds good. should there be a specific amount of pages done too, or no?

For the How-To Swap, I don't care if we standardize the size, but if we do 1/4-size sounds fine. I don't feel a need to specify page amounts as long as each one has enough pages to qualify as a booklet & not just a piece of paper folded half.

If we do a collaborative zine I'd personally prefer to do it after the swap because I'd like to do both but probably won't be able to if they're due at the same time (despite the small size). A page count guideline might be a good idea for this one. Instead of mailing copies, maybe the coordinator could send out a pdf for contributors to print their own.
