Hey everyone! This is a short update listing the newest zines and comics in at Black Light Diner Distro
YOU CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE #9
I love journal comics! This is by Carrie McNinch, former author of "Assassin and the Whiner." In her new comic, Carrie devotes a comic strip per day to detailing activities both important and mundane. Watch Carrie run the rattlesnake-infested canyons of the Los Angeles area, battle both depression and the desire to drink, and attend the San Diego Comic-Con in this cleanly drawn, pocket-sized comic. Quarter-sized, 36 pages.
YOU CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE #10
(Los Angeles, CA)
The latest issue of Carrie's journal comic, covering September through December of 2008, shows the weather getting colder, the spread of wildfires, and the bittersweet victory of Obama in the face of Proposition 8. Included here are highlights from her trip to Oaxaca, Mexico, which is expanded upon in the one-shot "You Can't Get Here Goes to Oaxaca" (see below). Quarter-sized, 36 pages.
YOU CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE GOES TO OAXACA
(Los Angeles, CA)
This issue of Carrie McNinch’s (“Assassin and the Whiner”) new autobiographical comic is a travel diary documenting a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico to stay with an expat friend and his family. Carrie battles the flu, samples a wide variety of Mexican alcohol, and appreciates ancient architecture (rendered in a simple, but surprisingly ornate style) in the birthplace of chocolate. Quarter-sized, 40 pages.
(Iowa City, IA)
This compilation of single-page comics by writers and artists in and around the Iowa City area includes mythological creature chess matches, sinister squirrels, video game playing cats, and more. Half-sized, 20 pages.
