December 2013

We are tribeless and all tribes are ours.
We are homeless and all homes are ours.
We are nameless and all names are ours.
To the fascists we are the faceless enemy
Who come like thieves in the night, angels of death:
The ever moving, shining, secret eye of the storm.
-"Open Letter to Filipino Artists by Emmanuel Lacaba"

PMP's 10th issue to date. An all-poetry anthology that aims to put together in one book trends in contemporary poetry from the Philippines and beyond. An ambitious project that wishes to span the whole planet. 100 poems in one book.

1. Each poet may submit 1-3 poems (of which the editors may get 1-3 poems for inclusion), with a maximum of 5 sentences bio-note.
2. Poems submitted must be unpublished. Poems submitted must be cut and pasted in the body of the email. Attach if you want, but please put the poems in the body of the email. It allows us to read and access the poems more easily. Plus if we have to download attachments in a laptop full of viruses while we're running late for work, and there's one attachment per poem, we can't even tell you how pissed we become.
3. Artists may submit cover art for this project. Cover art is front and back cover with the words Paper Monster Press and Poets of the Apocalypse in the front cover.
4. Artists submitting their work agree to allow PMP to publish their work in zine format (around 50 or so copies), and an e-book format (which will be sold through Paypal, or Amazon, or wherever).
5. Payment is 1 copy of the zine (while supplies last), if not, its a copy of the e-book.
6. Submissions must be sent to papermonsterpress@yahoo.com only.
7. Deadline is on August 31, 2013.

I like to collect certain zines when I can find them.

There is a zine called BIG FISH that I've only been able to find one or two issues of.

There's an issue of this zine that had a cover designed by Allen Ginsberg. The design was of a serpent eating its tail (An Ouroboros serpent).

Does anyone happen to own a copy of this zine, or know where a good place is to dig around for this zine? I'd be willing to pay $40 for this zine.

Thanks for your time!

I would like to announce the birth of the Monthly Manifesto. The Monthly Manifesto will be a free (and monthly!) publication distributed throughout Milwaukee. Currently we are open to submissions for our first issue "Manifesto of a Fool." If you would like to submit material (words and/or pictures, cartoons, ect.) based on this theme send them along to me at notanja@gmail.com for consideration. The deadline for this first foolish issue is March 23rd so that we can release on April's Fools Day. There is no fee for submissions either. That concept is so abhorrent that we could just about write a manifesto about it.  -Editors Anja Notanja and Jessica Poor

The Plant, Chicago is hosting a Winter Zine Fair on the evening of Saturday, February 23rd. We'd like to invite you to showcase your work and for those interested, to also perform a short live reading.

The Winter Zine Fair will be held at The Plant, 1400 W. 46th St. Chicago from 6pm to 11pm. Previous Open Houses and last fall's Monster Food Truck Rally brought 400+ attendees through The Plant!

The Winter Zine Fair will include Zinester Stalls, Lagunitas' mobile beer bar (Coming Soon to Chicago!), live readings, performances by local bands and jazz ensembles and several screenings of Self-Publishers of the World Take Over a documentary by Salford Zine Library's founder and curator, Craig John Barr.

The event is a fundraiser for The Plant, however, we hope to support other uniquely minded communities in the process. We feel that the courage and drive of a self-publisher is similar to that of Chicago's urban farming community.

Please review the attached floor plan to get a feel for the event space and the cost of renting a table for the evening. If you are interested in renting a table for the evening and/or reading at the Winter Zine Fair please contact Craig Barr at salfordzinelibrary@gmail.com .
