a place for zinesters - writers and readers
I'm in Minneapolis, MN and have been thinking about trying to do this for a while. I used to do a zine about 15 years ago, and was very into the zine scene. Well, I am into zines again! I've written one zine (2 years ago) and am now working on three more.
Having a face-to-face monthly meeting with other zinesters would really help me (and others, is my hope) stay connected with the zine world, as well as provide a place and time to work on my zine and get encouragement from like-minded folks.
I envision meeting in a zine-friendly forum, like Minnesota Center for Book Arts or someplace similar, where we can use glue sticks and cut up paper and make a fun mess. We could have time to go around the table(s) and do introductions and talk about what we're working on. Then we could share any great finds, like new zines we love or a good printer or a book with great ideas useful for zine-making, etc. Then we could have some work time where we sit down and get to it!
So I'm hoping to generate some interest here with some of you who are in Minnesota or closeby. Surely I'm not the only lonely zinester out here? I would be willing to organize meetings and be the leader, because I really want to commit more energy to doing my zines.
My challenge/opportunity/problem: I don't know anyone here! At least, I don't know any zinesters. I'm a 43-yr old stay-at-home Mommy and most of the people I know don't even know the word zine. Ack! So how do I find zine people?
