Not Lonely #3 is now available!

Issue 3 is about the fine line between fact and fiction, not throwing things away, being pestered by dodgy men on public transport, (somewhat comically) failing at interviews, insomnia, the reality check of life after university and alternative menstrual products. It's part-handwritten, part-typed and made in a cut-and-paste style with lots of pretty backgrounds and vintage images.

I love trades! Or the price is £1 UK / £1.50 Europe / £2 Elsewhere. Please contact me via my page on here or email not_lonely_zineATyahoo.co.uk if you'd like a copy.

The Oregonian is hoping to rattle some cages (like it did mine) by printing an article about overflow and lack-of-staff issues at Oregon State Mental Hospital in hope that the government will stop furloughs and allow the workers to make up for lost time and space. Patients are telling legislators the hospital is "enveloped in a 'culture of despair.'" This is a serious issue. I have suffered from mental illness for nearly two decades, and I am fortunate all the same that I have never had to be a patient/hostage/prisoner at a State Hospital. Anyone who lives in the Pacific Northwest and gives a flying fuck about the Mental Health System can get a copy of the article from me, as well as a zine I have compiled of Opinion-Editorials of my own that are related to the mental health system. Please send me one of your interesting zines in return.

Just finished my latest zine! Get A Grip is a mental health perzine on travelling Aotearoa/New Zealand as a queer feminist with depression and anxiety. I write about topics raging from consensual sex, comparing radical communities, surviving abuse, unemployment, anti-violence, social awkwardness, and cunt-like volcanoes. I write pretty raw so some of the topics may be triggering.
If you want a copy for yourself or for your distro just drop me a line and I'll sort a way of getting it you/let's exchange! I'm also planning on being organised enough to have the zine on pdf if digital is your thing.

Hi all,

We're starting up a zine library here in the UK and are looking for donations. We've had some great donations so far, but I'm particularly keen to reach out to folks who write about things like mental health issues. It's a topic close to my heart one that I think needs more exposure. We also want to make sure we also have a good variety of zines on other personal issues, too, such as feminism, gender and sexuality represented in the library. So if you have something you'd like to share, we'd love to have it!

If you'd like to donate your zine, the details here: http://smoo.tumblr.com/post/586897775/zine-library

Sorry to advertise so obviously!

Best,
Simon

Kerouac-inspired independent Mag looking for frank writers on the theme of 'Freedom'

Kerouac’s Dog Magazine ® is a brand-spanking new, independently published quarterly magazine set to form a bold and exciting creative platform for new writing, design, photography, fashion and plenty more. It’s inspired by Jack Kerouac and the 1960s Beat generation and in honour of these, will eagerly exhibit the newest and bravest work and folios, from creatives all over the world. All tied up with key themes of freedom; truth; beauty; love; travel; wanderlust; sex; taboo; and fringe. The whole thing will be beautifully designed and printed top-to-bottom in black and white (because we have a passion for all things black and white).

Issue 1 needs you – The very first Issue. ‘Freedom’ will be released as a limited print-run later in the year, and available to buy online, to a global audience. So we’re calling on creatives for submissions on this theme and this theme only. As the whole thing is in black and white, the only stipulation is that the stuff you send needs to be in – or look gorgeous in - monochrome. It can be old work, or new work, we don’t mind. We won’t be able to pay you, but we’re happy to put names and URLs with each submission used so please send these through, along with your work.

I have finished the new issue of Not Lonely!

A6 (1/4 size), 28 pages.

Issue 2 is mostly about saying no to things most people say yes to. There are articles on the drinking scene and why I don't go to pubs/clubs and the personal and political reasons why my partner and I decided not to get married; as well a discussion of the ways I manage my mental health without medication and a nerdy article on my method of "getting into" new albums.

Please see my profile for details of how to get a copy.
