Comment by Sari M on January 8, 2012 at 3:37pm CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - HOAX #7
The topic of Hoax #7 will be feminisms and CHANGE. We are eager for feminists of all backgrounds & genders to submit!
Potential ideas for material include, but are not limited to:
we also totally need lots of artwork (photos, collages, illustrations, drawings, paintings, comics, etc.)! particularly for background designs and things that compliment the written material.
please aim to send us yr amazing material to hoaxzine (at) gmail (dot) com by march 1st, 2012. if you are interested, feel free to e-mail us yr ideas for topics & artwork! as always, we are willing to work with you during any and every stage of the writing process. the sooner you send us yr work, the better!
also, we are still distributing back issues of hoax #3 – feminism & health, hoax #4 – feminism & hirstory, hoax #5 – feminisms & community, and hoax #6 – feminisms & communication, in addition to our perzines. please check out our etsy shop or email us if you would like to obtain any of these issues!
it’s been almost three years since we first began working on hoax. since 2009, hannah montana has been taken off the air, carrie brownstein picked up her guitar again, ugg boots are even more out of style, & those of us in the US can officially be detained indefinitely. neither of us can believe how much this project has expanded since its inception. thank you so much to every contributor, reader, & supporter of this zine!
we are looking forward to seeing yr work!
in solidarity,
sari & rachel
Comment by Nicholas Whitman Kessler on December 16, 2011 at 4:00pm Hey folks. While attending a rehabilitation program here in Vancouver, WA I was struck by how difficult it can be for intelligent people as myself to fit in to these programs, to SLOW DOWN and ACT like you're medicated, because that seems to be the only way people will acknowledge progress (I know, it's kind of sick and twisted). I know a lot of the people on this forum have been to outpatient programs/groups, and this leads me to the offer I was thinking. I would like to create a mental health system coping manual for those of us that have trouble communicating with people and understanding the basis of some of these programs. To that end, any stories of survival in groups/outpatient programs and how people managed to still find help in them despite the odds would be welcome. You would receive credit and a few copies to help spread the word. Please email me at nick.kessler@comcast.net.
Comment by DawnZilla on December 15, 2011 at 5:11pm Hey everyone! I work with a queer youth drop-in center and advocacy organization here in Vermont. I'm going to be doing an ongoing zine group and was hoping for some donations to our zine library for youth to read and be inspired by. I'm specifically looking for zines by queers (LGBTQQ) and/or that would be somehow relevant to queer youth (ages 13-22). As queer youth are disproportionately impacted by substance abuse, suicide, homelessness, etc., zines related to these issues or promoting self care, etc are very welcome. It would especially be great to have zines created by queer youth... Just sayin!
Please feel free to get in touch if you're interested in donating or if you have any questions.

Comment by Daily Alice Clementine on December 5, 2011 at 5:09pm Hello! I finished the first issue of my perzine, "Lungless Salamander," about a month ago and have a fresh batch of copies from Kinko's as of today. Although the zine isn't meant to be specifically about mental health, mental health problems are a prominent recurring feature of my life and that fact tends to come up in my writing. I'd like to trade zines with anyone who is interested, especially seeing as I'm new to all this zine-making stuff...

Comment by QueensBee Zines on October 6, 2011 at 11:51pm Hi Zinesters!
My name's Dawn. I am a former NYC public high school ESL teacher who taught zine-making to my students. Now, I'm in library school studying to become a community college/academic librarian, hopefully.
Anyway, I am currently in an information literacy pedagogy course, and doing a research process project with the following research question:
"How do high school teachers create effective zine projects to help students of all learning abilities improve in their writing skills?"
If any of you have/know of someone who has/or know of resources where I can find information related to this question, please reply to me at the following email address-
senorita.wing@gmail.com
Thanks in advance!
