Hi, I have been working on starting a zine library in Providence, RI. But now I am seriously contemplating a move to LA. If anyone has any advice as to locations and people to get in contact with to get it started when I move, that'd be great.

Hi, does anyone know of a zine library in the SoCal area? LA or OC? Thanks in advance.

At Meltdown Comics: on December 5th @ 3 PM, False Start will host a screening of “Don’t Need You”, a short documentary about the origins of Riot Grrrl, a feminist punk rock movement from the early 1990’s. Through making music, playing shows and writing zines, Riot Grrrls created a movement centered on creativity, self-expression and making marginalized voices heard. In addition to the screening there will be an art show of work that embodies the do-it-yourself, low art, punk rock spirit of Riot Grrrl.

The documentary will be 40 minutes long and there will be zines to browse and buy, some booze to sip on for those that are 21+ (bring your own, too!), and of course, art to look at!

Call for submissions: Riot Grrrls didn’t wait to be backed by a major label to make their music, Zinesters don’t wait for a publisher to give them permission to publish, and we want art from artist’s who believe in doing-it-yourself, not waiting for someone to do it for you. We’re interested in any medium that can be hung on a wall and are open to any subject matter and content. We want low-brow art, outsider art, art from artists who think creation and self-expression are important above all else.

JUNE 5th from 6-9 at the Silverlake Lounge my friend from the Local 562 (an arts collective out of Whittier) is putting together a free show with free booze! And I'll be tabling in the back, along with the Local 562 and hopefully Nan Lawson and Michael Jonathan! Save the date and come check it out!

I would like to invite you to Saturation Fest 2010's DIY Arts & Letters Fest. The event will be held at the Riverside Art Museum, Saturday, May 29, 2010, from 12 noon-4pm. We are inviting self-publishers to table and read from their self-published/small press works. Are you interested? Email Angela at madame.angela.chaos@gmail.com. and let me know if you'd like to table, read, or both :) If you know anyone who is interested in being involved, please feel free to forward my information. First-time publishers are strongly encouraged to apply!

WHAT IS SATURATION FEST? Saturation is a DIY art and music festival that occurs semi-annually in Riverside, CA. Saturation is a labor of love, and it’s successful because of the incredible talent in Riverside. We keep doing it because it’s fun, and because it’s vital to keep up the hard work on behalf of the bands, artists, and community that make Riverside uniquely creative and supportive.
