We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Hey everyone!

L.A. Record (L.A.'s biggest independent music publication!) is now doing zine reviews as part of its book section. As the zine editor, I have been scouring book/comic stores for local zines for the last two issues, but I want to putting out a call for submissions to give those without distro an opportunity to be involved!

What to send: Zines of any shape, size and subject along with any supplementary info you deem necessary (otherwise, I'll Google you). Comic zines, perzines, art/photo zines, travel zines and fanzines are all welcome. Preferred are handmade zines out of Los Angeles that have been printed or re-printed in the last 6 months. If there is a music tie-in, that is also cool since we're a music magazine, but it's definitely not necessary.

What not to send: Poetry zines (unless there is an art element), bound books, public domain zines, foreign-language zines, severed fingers.

Where to send:

Sarah Bennett

1538 E. 3rd St. #9

Long Beach, CA 90802

What you will get in return: Possibly a review in L.A. Record, a well-respected music/art publication with a quarterly circulation of 30,000. If you include a letter/note asking for one, I will also send you a copy of my zine, Cerebellum (just let me know which of the two issues, you want). So it's kind of like a trade with the opportunity to get some publicity!

Unfortunately, these reviews do not go up on the website yet, but I have scans of the last few issues' reviews if anyone cares to see what it looks like in print. If you have any other questions, feel free to reply here!

Thanks in advance!!

Sarah

P.S. I am still in the preliminary stages of planning a zine fest in Long Beach and will update everyone as that comes together and we need the help (right now it's grants and coordinating details
with the sposoring bookstore, {open}).
