I'm putting together a (maga)zine of stories under 500 words. Our first issue is out and we're now accepting submissions for our second. Ordering info and submission guidelines are available on our website: http://conciselymagazine.blogspot.com/. People submitting work should understand that we are being selective about which pieces we receive to publish.

Hi, I'm part of a writers group in Melbourne, Australia and we've just published a zine of short stories called southpaw grammar. It features work by Benjamin Solah, Sam Stoker, Ben Pearmain, Alex Ettling and Frankie Cole, who've tackled topics from failed dates to fishing, vegan extremes to the undead.
If anyone would like to trade with us that would be rad... sends your to
The Southpaw Grammar Writers Group

and we will send you one back. Promise.

Hello all! I am working on a literary zine called Ordinary. Please feel free to check out my blog for submission guidelines at ordinaryzine.blogspot.com The guidelines are pretty basic and I am still looking for submissions.

Hello literary folks! I've just put my first fiction zine together, called Edith, and I am interested in trading for other fiction zines. It is a quarter-sized zine with five short stories. You can read some info about it here. Come talk to me if you're interested!

hi! anyone here interested in a collaboration zine? like someone can start a story, then whoever wants to join will add to the story until we complete the story... depending on how many will want to participate, we can each write a chapter, a paragraph, or whatever... you get the idea :) i'll make a discussion on the main, leave a comment if you're interested :)

The original idea behind my zine was very similar to yours, though it has drifted significantly away from that direction since.

Ultimately, I think it depends a lot on your area, overall goals, and access to materials. Here are a few things I learned from my experience...hopefully it is at least of some help.

I'd suggest keeping things as 'clean' looking as possible in terms of design. If you have experience/access to indesign, it may help you reach an older audience compared to a cut and paste style production. Try soliciting submissions from the community. Also, try distributing your zine at events that will have a diverse range of people...poetry readings or large comminity events are always great ways to reach a broad range of age groups in a short amount of time.

The most important thing is to not get discouraged if the zine doesn't take off initially. It takes a while to build interest in any community based publication, whether it's a small zine or a full scale newspaper. Good luck, and feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
