a place for zinesters - writers and readers
I've looked for a discussion about this but haven't been able to find one, so forgive me if this already exists.
Someone asked me if my zines are written in a character's voice, and I realized one of my characters would totally write zines, so I started writing a zine in her voice. Has anyone else done this? I know somemeone must have. And if you did, did you treat is a writing exercise and that was it, or did you trade?
Any experience about this or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Permalink Reply by Ben Spies on August 14, 2011 at 11:57pm I think it's a really cool idea. I've sort of done the opposite-- most of the stories in my zines are purely fictitious, but I wrote and published one in first person that did not specify the names of the characters, and I kind of like that it read like a perzine and was a blending of fact and fiction. I do think that because zines are so often personal (and almost diary-like) that they provide a unique medium for creative genre blending. I like the idea of readers picking up a zine they don't know anything about, and, given expectations they might have from reading other zines, wondering what is real and what has been totally made up.
