CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: ASUANG by PAPER MONSTER PRESS

Asuang is an umbrella term for creatures that people our imagination. As blood suckers, they engender in us, a fear of the dark, of morbidity, of paleness, of incense. The fear that desires, the fear that suffocates, not just creatures but open spaces and high places. Fear of beings that when looked at mirrors or through other eyes, resemble perhaps, ourselves? Then here maybe, there be monsters?

Asuang then calls not just for darkness but for hallucinogen, psychedelia, kaleidoscopic narratives in whatever genre.

Specifically, we ask for:
1. 1-3 poems/ essays/ flash fiction (less than 500 words, English or Filipino)

2. 1-3 artworks in black/ white (in JPEG format)

3. 1-3 sound pieces in MP3 or Wav format

4. Critical essays about the small press/ underground publishing/ the culture of fanzines (also under 500 words)

5. Reviews of any issue of Paper Monster Press (and we’ve done 6 so far)
a. Pyrotechnic Poetry 1
b. Pyrotechnic Poetry 2
c. S/trip-hop
d. Dream(pop)
e. Queer Punk
f. SANDIGmaan

6. A theme for 1 print year
Ex. LOST IN TRANSLATION year
a. Issue 1: Atlantis (about forgetting/ resurfacing/ the abyss/ depths/ drowning/ swan diving)
b. Issue 2: Free Tibet (about culture clash/ Buddhism/ heights/ climbing/ pure dizziness of clouds)
c. Issue 3: Time-space Warp (about timezones/ cultural differences/ time and space/ reincarnation/ and the endless echoes we can never reach)
d. Issue 4: Labyrinths (canals/ road bridges/ the strange and devious routes we take to fantasy/ intoxication/ escape)

THE FINE PRINT
1. Send all submissions to papermonsterpress@yahoo.com with the heading: ATTN: ASUANG SUBMISSION
2. The deadline for submissions is on May 31, 2012.
3. Payment is one contributor copy and that warm fuzzy feeling that comes from seeing your name in print. ;)

Issue 22 of Necronomicon, the UK retro horror film fanzine is out now on Etsy. I have started a film club where people review the same horror film and I collect the reviews in one issue. Only cheesy films! Get in touch. You can buy 22 at Etsy http://www.etsy.com/listing/76510221/necronomicon-22-uk-horror-fanz...

I have finally reprinted issue 3 of Monstress. This issue is all about werewolves and has short comics (drawn by me), reviews of werewolf movies up to 2004, testimony from French werewolf trials and some fake fan fiction.

You can get it from my etsy shop. Thanks!

Issue 19 of Necronomicon the UK horror fanzine is out now, featuring Troll Hunter, found footage horror, The Tunnel, Exterminator City, Rec, Mutilations and more. All 19 issues of Necro are available now from Etsy.

Also, Necro will be at the Bram Stoker Film Festival selling all issues, it takes place in Whitby, North Yorkshire in the Whitby Pavillion. Necro Neil (thats me) will also feature in possibly the first ever cinema advert for a fanzine showing at the festival as part of the short b movie called ATTACK OF THE MARTIAN MUTANT...FROM MARS! Its a great independent horror film weekend with horror related shows and guests.

Issue 18 of Necronomicon fanzine is out now on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop/NecroNeil plus all the back issues of the last ten years have been reprinted.

Again, manic ramblings about mostly retro horror films in an old skool cut and paste fashoin. Always looking for contributions, anything personal relating to horror is perfect!

I am gathering material for a new horror zine, ZOMBIE CAR CRASH. I need art that will reproduce well in b&w, and fiction. Obviously I can't promise to use everything I get, but if I don't, it'll probably be b/c of space limitations.
Anyone who's interested can email me via "emmettsudsbury at yahoo dot com" or write to "Don Lee, 601 N. Johnson #2, Clarksville, AR 72830"

Thanks!

Hello there!

Le Stoner's Digest finally got its first issue! You can get it right there in my Etsy shop : http://www.etsy.com/shop/inoxid

In a few words, it's a fiction zine with 5 greasy stories of stabwounds and psychotic maniacs.

Not licking your fingers yet? Well here's the whole drill :

"Le Stoner's Digest is a new fiction zine written by two french dudes ( with some help from Displaced Snail's very own J. Carlough!). It is sleazy, violent, fun, what can i say, it's PULP as FUCK.

First issue is about big knives and psycho killers, and you should not let your kids read it. I mean, seriously, why would you give them some cheap-ass zine when they could be entertaining themselves with Cosmopolitan or some cool mag with high-end cars and big boobs?

Contains 5 profanity-littered original stories, and plenty of illustrations. 32 A5 pages of gorgeous 120g paper, with a manly 200g cover, and the supplement is a short story by Phillibert Mossberg printed on that awesome but weirdly formatted paper i once found in the street in Paris. True story!"
