hey ladies. i'm a little late to the party on this one, seeing as how i haven't logged into ning in a while. i do the body posi zine Fat Girl (it's a 1/4 size hand illustrated zine). some of the issues have pieces or writing by others, but most of the content is mine.

currently working on #14.

Erin mentioned her zine dirty love, which deals a lot with body image/fat +. I have been fortunate enough to read this zine and think it is powerful and wonderful and GREAT! I cannot say enough good stuff about this zine and highly recommend it.

There's a piece in there about writing down what one needs to be loved. I mentioned this idea to my partner and he is totally down with it and we are going to make lists for each other. Thanks Erin. (and that reminds me, I have a list to write.)

I am writing an article about We Make Zines for the upcoming issue of Zine World. I want to ask some folks some questions. If anyone in this group wants to participate, message me and I'll send the questions to you. Thanks!

Hey Kisha,

That is good. I am glad it got into some of the right hands and I know that is what matters. I guess the fact that she just directly copied the pages just really surprised me...

i like what chantel g. said. i feel the same way..my zine isn't all about body image or sizeism, but it does influence a lot of what i write and i have included articles on fat/body image/size acceptance in almost every issue.

I got Fat is Beautiful and just read through it. 90% of it is other peoples work, some copied directly from the book. She doesn't state this on the pages, but I recognized them. Did the other people who read it know this?

It is important to get this info out and I totally see how zines can work as a funnel for people by doing these kind of reprints, but it seemed really weird to me that it wasn't shown on the page that this is actually a copy from a book and not something I wrote. There was a list at the back of sources, but it doesn't show which of these sources were used, it only lists them with many others.

How do you all feel about this? How do you think the authors would feel. I personally feel ripped off a bit that I went out of my way to buy this zine from a distro thinking I was getting some original content and just got reprints of stuff I already own. However, I may not be the average reader.

Ah, man. I'm so happy this exists.

That's all, right now.

I don't do an zine explicitly about being a fat girl (grrrl gal lady woman etc.), but I joined this group because I think being a fat gal influences what I write and what I read. (And if folks think that's not enough for me to stay in this group, I will totally understand and leave graciously.)

I think size/body positivity is important and I really appreciate everyone who is putting those ideas out there as a way to comfort ourselves and each other and as a way to inform and educate the rest of the world (or at least the world that reads zines).
