POETS OF THE APOCALYPSEby PAPER MONSTER PRESSDecember 2013We are tribeless and all tribes are ours.We are homeless and all homes are ours.We are nameless and all names are ours.To the fascists we are the faceless enemyWho come like thieves in the night, angels of death:The ever moving, shining, secret eye of the storm.-"Open Letter to Filipino Artists by Emmanuel Lacaba"PMP's 10th issue to date. An all-poetry anthology that aims to put together in one book trends in contemporary poetry from the Philippines and beyond. An ambitious project that wishes to span the whole planet. 100 poems in one book. Guidelines:1. Artists may submit cover art for this project. Cover art is front and back cover with the words Paper Monster Press and Poets of the Apocalypse in the front cover.4. Artists submitting their work agree to allow PMP to publish their work in zine format (around 50 or so copies), and an e-book format (which will be sold through Paypal, or Amazon, or wherever).5. So I've recently moved to Chicago and mostly work from home, which is awesome in some ways, but can make it hard to get out and connect to new people. It'd also be great to have some more motivation for doing creative stuff. It'd be cool just to meet some awesome people around here, especially if you're interested in doing collaborative projects... But I wrote my first book and you can pre-order it. There's also a reward in the kickstarter for a 5 book pre-order at a wholesale rate if any distros would be interested in carrying it. It's a comic book to be exact - stemming from my zines, List and Everydaypants.
"Year One is about being in a new place, trying to convince yourself to be outgoing, reassuring yourself that going to bed at 9pm on a Friday night will not kill your social life, new adventures with new friends, being confident, exploring new relationships, keeping in touch with old friends, the highs of summer and the lows of winter, embracing community, tiptoeing toward new love, holding on to an old one, family, and friends that are like family, open relationships, punk community, companionship, loss and grief, appreciating home while searching for new variations of that word, and generally being a twenty-something year old trying to figure things out."
I drew 2-3 pages of comics for every week that went by for my first year in Philadelphia. Features weeks including the Chicago Zine Fest, DC Zine Fest, and Philly Zine Fest! Maybe you'll spot yourself. Lots of zine friends and punk friends are in it, as well as several trips to Chicago.
Also, if this shouldn't be a post, let me know and I can delete it!
