Cascadia Zine Coalition!

At the Zine Librarian (un)Conference in Seattle this month there was a workshop on sustainability. It ended up being people from ZAPP and people from the IPRC in Portland. We were talking about ways to connect zine makers and readers in the Pacific North West. This group is for discussing ideas and supporting eachother in our projects.

Awesome, let's talk times when we get a little closer and the event schedule is more complete.

I'm totally down for a workshop/brainstorm sesh for the Cascadia ZIne coalition at the symposium. I'll put it into out schedule.

Who in this group is planning to attend the Portland Zine Symposium? Maybe those of us attending should get together and talk about where we are going with this Cascadia Zine Coalition... what say you? I'll be there all three days and I've offered to help with whatever needs helping...

I live just north of Seattle. I knew about the librarian un-conference but didn't go as I'm not a librarian. I came to zines as a way to publish poetry in unique ways, and I teach at a community college. Seattle doesn't have a book festival any longer, either, and I have been thinking that some event that might appeal to both zinesters and small press publishers could be cool. It could be a smallish event, just a place for people to table.

hey guys! i have very little time to get on this site very often lately, but just wanted to say hello from missoula. So sad i didnt make it out to the unConference. Does anyone have interest in having a zine conference in Missoula? Bring some bands along? Also, i am doing some teen summer camps and would be THRILLED to have anyone come visit us and show your zine to them and talk with them about your world. I am GIVING slumgullion to them, and they'll be using our bookmobile. I invite you all to do the same thing if you come to Missoula (use the bookmobile for some street-zine-selling-fun). You can call me at the Zootown Arts Community Center 549-7555

Thanks for creating this group, Alex! I think initially it would be good to figure out where zine libraries and resource centers are located in the NW, and recruit interested parties into the coalition. The next step might be sharing information and resources, cross-promoting, co-sponsoring... what else? A retreat?

The idea is to try to get folks involved with zines in all the areas of the NorthWest and involve more people. Our first talk is just the beginning! You are welcome to stay and help out!

i'm familiar with the unconference except i have a job and couldn't go. so since you guys are already established and friends and shit, i think i'll just resign from this group.
