Having a goofy little time and putting together a small quarter-sized lit mag. Looking for poetry and flash fiction, mostly. It's called Modicum, looking to collect small, short, and charming work, and the first issue's theme is Trees. Head to the Modicum page to find the guidelines and all!

Gag Me With A... is a new gender-neutral zine, small format looking for short content--anything in the realm of counter/sub/pop culture: short short/micro fiction, movies/music/book reviews, politics (lefties only, please), social justice, short poetry, random b&w photography & art (as far from Ansel Adams & Thomas Kinkade as one can muster), rants, ravings, diary entries...The weirder, the better. Admit it. I think we all do it. We fall in love with these fucking people, and they go off and do something so goddamned stupid, but we bite our tongues. We know better than to say anything out loud, so we turn to our journals, our diaries, our blogs, our word processing software and we just LET IT ALL OUT.

Out of the Box: Queering the Gender Binary is a compilation zine for those of us who don’t fit into neatly organized gender boxes. I would like find submissions on a wide variety of issues pertaining to our experiences, including, but not limited to:

• language/ pronouns
• how gender pertains to sexuality & the gendered nature of sexual relations
• feeling outcast in various aspects of day-to-day life
• whether or not to “come out” to friends/ family/ strangers
• assimilation vs. liberation
• being of a non-binary gender at yer job
• hirstory of androgyny
• pressure to balance “masculinity” and “femininity” in actions/ characteristics/ appearance
• the genderqueer community (and if there is one or not)
• issues of legitimacy of identity
• the trans* umbrella
• queer theory in relation to gender
• being erased or alienated in spaces that should be supportive
• and so forth!

GET FIT FOR THE PIT!

All too often the punk scene seems to look down on athletics and sports of all kinds. I happen to regret a lot of my past shunning of sports and fitness for the sake of it not being “punk rock.” In 2009 i started running and fell in love with it. (After I quit what could have been a pretty good softball career at age 15 because I was too cool.) It still feels somewhat awkward to have one foot in the running community and the other in the punk community.

I am looking to put together a zine writings/essays, art, comics, etc about the joys of participating in sports and/or getting fit. Why is it important to you? Why do you think that fitness is shunned in the punk scene? Can you be into organized sports and not be a “jock?” These are just some ideas to get you going, anything involving athleticism and being into the punk scene will be looked at!

I’d love to start putting together this zine in the new year, so submissions are open until December 31st.

Work has begun on the third issue of Photocopy Press and once again I need to the help of the zine community to make a special section for this issue. I would like zine makers to take a self-portrait (or have a friend take your picture) holding something (paper, seashell art, macrame...) that reads "I Make Zines". It doesn't have to show your face. It doesn't even have to be a picture, if your the creative illustrator type it can be a drawn self-portrait. Each contributor can have one or two lines below their picture with your name, the name of your zine(s) and your contact info/blog/etsy store. I can't send out contributors copies this time since that gets quite pricey, but it is an opportunity for free publicity about you and your zine, so why not submit? Please keep in mind this is just a photocopied, black and white zine that will be folded half-size. It will either be for the Winer or Spring 2011 issue of Photocopy Press.
